Carisoprodol is a muscle relaxant analgesic, which has an active metabolite i.e. meprobamate. We conducted an open three-panel single-dose administration study with 15 healthy volunteers: five poor metabolizers of mephenytoin, five poor metabolizers of debrisoquine and five extensive metabolizers of both substrates. The aim was to investigate if the elimination of carisoprodol and meprobamate is dependent on the two metabolic polymorphisms of mephenytoin and debrisoquine. The subjects were given ...

BackgroundIt has been suggested that prenatal exposure to n-3 long-chain fatty acids protects against asthma and other allergy-related diseases later in childhood. The extent to which fish intake in pregnancy protects against child asthma and rhinitis symptoms remains unclear. We aimed to assess whether fish and seafood consumption in pregnancy is associated with childhood wheeze, asthma and allergic rhinitis.

Clinical evaluation of undergraduate nursing students is one of the most challenging aspects of baccalaureate nursing education, especially for novice clinical instructors. Early identification of unsafe student behaviours is necessary to ensure students obtain adequate support and guidance. The degree to which clinical instructors are certain about what is safe and unsafe varies, and greatly influences their decisions about evaluative processes and which patients to assign to students. The purpose ...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Positive allosteric modulation of α4β2 nicotinic acetylcholine (nACh) receptors could add a new dimension to the pharmacology and therapeutic approach to these receptors. The novel modulator NS9283 was therefore tested extensively. EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH Effects of NS9283 were evaluated in vitro using fluorescence‐based Ca 2+ imaging and electrophysiological voltage clamp experiments in Xenopus oocytes, mammalian cells and thalamocortical neurons. In vivo the compound was tested ...

The removal of organic pollutants from water is a significant challenge in environmental remediation. In this study, the potential of ZnO and Nb2O5 semiconductors with the impregnation of three percentages of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) as efficient photocatalysts for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye aqueous solutions was investigated in a UV mini-reactor. The photocatalysts of rGO supported on TiO2 were obtained in situ by a sequence of an improved Hummers' method and an eco-friendly hydrothermal procedure. The XRD diffractograms did not present the signals corresponding with the rGO. However, they were detected in micro-Raman because of the characterized signals of D and G bands observed. From TEM, the rGO sheets were visualized covering the surface of TiO2. The photocatalytic experiments were conducted in a real-time monitoring UV-LED mini-reactor ( ...

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) antibodies decay but persist 6 months postvaccination; lower levels of neutralizing titers persist against Delta than wild-type virus. Trust in leaders is central to citizen compliance with public policies. One potential determinant of trust is how leaders resolve conflicts between utilitarian and non-utilitarian ethical principles in moral dilemmas. Past research suggests that utilitarian responses to dilemmas can both erode and enhance trust in leaders: sacrificing some people to save many others ('instrumental harm') reduces trust, while maximizing the welfare of everyone equally ('impartial beneficence') may increase trust.
