This paper aims to identify and quantify the main potential environmental impacts of the sugarcane bagasse electricity generation in Brazil. To do so, it was employed the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) technique based on primary and secondary data from three previous studies encompassing electricity generation, transmission and distribution processes. It was identified that the main impact potentials of this type of electricity generation in Brazil that should be addressed by decision-makers are the ...

Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) in patients undergoing lung transplantation (LT) are associated with significant mortality. Previous studies have shown the efficacy of aerosolized amphotericin B deoxycholate and oral fluconazole for antifungal prophylaxis. Evolving data show a potential advantage of prophylaxis with lipid-based formulations of amphotericin B in the prevention of IFIs. We reviewed the incidence of IFIs among patients receiving aerosolized amphotericin B lipid complex (ABLC) in LT. ...

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the precursors on the synthesis of MnOx-SBA15 catalysts. The influence of the manganese phase on the activity of catalysts in the complete oxidation of ethyl acetate was also tested. SBA15 was synthesized according to a standard method reported in the literature and manganese was introduced onto the support following an incipient wetness method using three different precursors. The catalysts were characterized by N2 adsorption, XRD, FTIR, TPR ...

Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS) is a genetically-determined trait that allows people to notice external and internal subtleties in sensory stimuli easily. This feature provides certain advantages to those who possess it, such as, greater empathy, artistic tastes or skills, also, this people can get greater benefit in circumstances with little exposure to sensory input. However, an unfavorable feature of the trait is an increased vulnerability to development psychopathology. In Mexico there is ...

Once a biorefinery is ready to operate, the main processed materials need to be completely evaluated in terms of many different factors, including disposal regulations, technological limitations of installation, the market, and other societal considerations. In biorefinery, glycerol is the main by-product, representing around 10% of biodiesel production. In the last few decades, the large-scale production of biodiesel and glycerol has promoted research on a wide range of strategies in an attempt ...

The protein deacetylase, sirtuin 1, is suggested as a master regulator of exercise-induced beneficial effects. Sirtuin 1 modulates mitochondrial biogenesis, primarily via its ability to deacetylate and activate proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator-1α (PGC-1α), interacting with AMPK kinase. Redox cell status can also influence this regulatory axis and together they form an important convergence point in hormesis during the aging process. Here, we tested whether treadmill training (36 weeks), ...

Substance abuse is a major and prevalent public health concern among university students. Tobacco smoking, risky alcohol behavior, and illegal drug consumption may lead to health problems and behavioral and academic issues. Deriving metallicities for solar-like stars follows well-established methods, but for cooler stars such as M dwarfs, the determination is much more complicated due to forests of molecular lines that are present. Several methods have been developed in recent years to determine accurate stellar parameters for these cool stars ($T_{\rm eff} \lesssim$ 4000 K). However, significant differences can be found at times when comparing metallicities for the same star derived using different methods. In this work, ...

Satisfaction with life (SWL) and subjective vitality (SV) are indicators of subjective well-being and quality of life. University students are at risk of low levels of subjective well-being, and therefore it is necessary to have properly validated tools to assess SWL and SV in this population. Multi-objective metaheuristics have become popular techniques for dealing with complex optimization problems composed of a number of conflicting functions. Nowadays, we are in the Big Data era, so metaheuristics must be able to solve dynamic problems that may vary over time due to the processing and analysis of several streaming data sources. As this is a new field, there is a need for software platforms to solve dynamic multi-objective Big Data optimization problems. In this paper, we present jMetalSP, ...
