The oxidation behavior of Zircaloy-4 at high temperatures in a flowing Ar-H2O (saturated at 323 K) mixed gas was investigated using hydrogen and oxygen sensors installed at a gas outlet, and the utility of the gas sensing methods by using both sensors was examined. The generated amount of hydrogen was determined from the hydrogen partial pressure continuously measured by the hydrogen sensor, and the resultant calculated oxygen amount that reacted with the specimen was in close agreement with the ...

Abstract Purpose To identify specific bacterial communities in vaginal and endometrial microbiotas as biomarkers of implantation failure by comprehensively analyzing their microbiotas using next‐generation sequencing. Methods We investigated α‐ and β‐diversities of vaginal and endometrial microbiotas using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and compared their profiles between 145 women with repeated implantation failure (RIF) and 21 controls who lacked the factors responsible for implantation failure with ...

The Goto-Kakizaki (GK) rat is a spontaneously diabetic animal model of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, which is characterized by progressive loss of beta cells in the pancreatic islets with fibrosis. In the present study, we examined the effects of sucrose feeding on the islet pathology in this model. Six-week-old GK rats were fed with 30% sucrose for 6 weeks to induce severe hyperglycemia, and their condition was compared with that of nontreated rats. Age-matched normal Wistar rats were ...

The Goto-Kakizaki (GK) rat, an animal model of type 2 diabetes, exhibits mild hyperglycemia with a reduction of β-cell mass. The mechanism for islet structural changes in this model and whether the changes are affected by metabolic control are not known. In the present study, we examined the process of islet changes in male GK rats aged 6, 8, 12, 24, and 36 weeks. Treatment effects with an α-glucosidase inhibitor (Voglibose; Takeda, Osaka, Japan) for 24 weeks (12 to 36 weeks of age) were also evaluated. ...

The large-scale mouse mutagenesis with ENU has provided forward-genetic resources for functional genomics. The frozen sperm archive of ENU-mutagenized generation-1 (G1) mice could also provide a "mutant mouse library" that allows us to conduct reverse genetics in any particular target genes. We have archived frozen sperm as well as genomic DNA from 9224 G1 mice. By genome-wide screening of 63 target loci covering a sum of 197 Mbp of the mouse genome, a total of 148 ENU-induced mutations have been ...

Abstract Background We aimed to develop criteria for treatment intensification in patients with (1) luminal Crohn’s disease (CD), (2) CD with perianal disease and/or fistula, (3) CD with small bowel stenosis, (4) in the postoperative setting, and (5) for discontinuing or reducing the dose of treatment in patients with CD. Methods PubMed and Embase were searched for studies published since 1998 which may be relevant to the five defined topics. Results were assessed for relevant studies, with preference ...

We assessed SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence in Japan during July-August 2023, with a focus on 2 key age groups, 0-15 and >80 years. We estimated overall seroprevalence of 45.3% for nucleocapsid antibodies and 95.4% for spike antibodies and found notable maternally derived spike antibodies in infants 6-11 months of age (90.0%).

Repeated implantation failure (RIF) is estimated to occur in 15%–20% of infertile women undergoing in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET). Molecular identification recently confirmed that the uterine microbiota may have implications for reproductive and obstetrical outcomes. We evaluated dysbiosis of the vaginal and endometrial microbiota in patients with RIF to comprehensively analyze their microbiota using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and compared the microbiota profiles in the RIF patients ...
