Two different probability distributions in the pure birth process are considered. They depend on initial conditions: (A) δn,k (k is the number of hadrons at t=0). (B) σkδn,k 〈m〉k exp (−〈m〉)/k! (the number of hadrons at t=0) is distributed by the Poisson law with the average multiplicity 〈m〉). Moment formulae are used in analyzing data in the energy range of Serpukhov, FNAL, ISR and SPS pp colliders. Higher moments (C4 and C5) of the first case (A) give larger values than those obtained by the negative binomial ( ...

By the use of the Poisson transformation or the method of difference, we obtain a differential-difference equation from the Fokker-Planck equation for the Glauber-Lachs and Peřina-McGill formula. It is found that the resulting equation is of the same type as the equation of the QCD branching processes. From solutions in these equations, we can infer possible mechanisms for hadronization: The randomization in stochastic theory seems to be a plausible procedure. Some data (diffractive KNO scaling distribution ...

To describe the transverse momentum [Formula: see text] distribution of charged hadrons at 1.96 TeV observed by the CDF collaboration, we propose a formula with two components, namely, hadron gas distributions and inverse power laws inspired by QCD calculus. The new formula based on a formula by Hagedorn in 1983 includes an integration of pseudo-rapidity [Formula: see text]. The data collected at 0.9, 2.76, 7 and 13 TeV by the ALICE, CMS, and ATLAS collaborations are also analyzed using various models ...

The extent of a locally equilibrated parton plasma in d + Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV is investigated as a function of collision centrality in a nonequilibrium-statistical framework. Based on a three-sources model, analytical solutions of a relativistic diffusion equation are in precise agreement with recent data for charged-particle pseudorapidity distributions. The moving midrapidity source indicates the size of the local thermal equilibrium region after hadronization. In central d + Au collisions ...

To explain η-distributions at RHIC energies we consider the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. To account for hadrons produced in the central region, we assume existence of third source located there (y ≈0) in addition to two sources located at the beam and target rapidities (±ymax = ±ln [√sNN/mN]). This results in better χ2/n.d.f. than those for only two sources when analysing data.

A diagram technique to calculate the higher order Bose-Einstein correlations is formulated. This technique is applied to derive explicit expressions for the n -pion correlation functions for n =2, 3, 4 and 5. Detailed calculations and numerical predictions are given. In comparison with the AFS and NA23 data on two-pion and three-pion Bose-Einstein correlations good agreement is obtained.

Newly reported normalized cumulant moments of charged particles in ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ collisions by the SLD Collaboration are analyzed by the truncated modified negative binomial distribution (MNBD) and the negative binomial distribution (NBD). The calculated result by the MNBD describes the oscillatory behavior of the data much better than that by the NBD.

Cumulant moments of negatively charged and charged particles observed in ${\mathit{e}}^{+}$${\mathit{e}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$ collisions are analyzed by the modified negative binomial distribution (MNBD). The cumulant moment of observed negatively charged particles shows an oscillatory behavior more regularly than that of the charged particles as the rank of the moment increases. Those behaviors are well described by the MNBD. The characteristics of the MNBD are discussed comparing them with those ...

The oscillatory behavior of cumulant moments obtained from the experimental data in $\mathrm{pp}$ collisions and $\overline{p}p$ collisions is analyzed by the modified negative binomial distribution (MNBD) and the negative binomial distribution (NBD). Both distributions describe well the cumulant moments obtained from the data. This fact shows a sharp contrast to the result in ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ collisions, which is described by the MNBD much better than by the NBD.

Moments in pseudorapidity intervals at the CERN Sp\ifmmode\bar\else\textasciimacron\fi{}pS collider (\ensuremath{\surd}s =546 GeV) are analyzed by means of two probability distributions in the pure-birth stochastic process. Our results show that a probability distribution obtained from the Poisson distribution as an initial condition is more useful than that obtained from the Kronecker \ensuremath{\delta} function. Analytical solution of a one-dimensional hydrodynamical model is derived, where phase transition from the quark-gluon plasma state to the hadronic state is effectively taken into account. The single-particle rapidity distribution of charged $\ensuremath{\pi}$ mesons observed in relativistic heavy ion collisions is analyzed by the model. Space-time development of the fluid is also investigated.

Species delimitations by morphological and by genetic markers are not always congruent. Magnolia kobus consists of two morphologically different varieties, kobus and borealis. The latter variety is characterized by larger leaves than the former. For the conservation of M. kobus genetic resources in natural forests, the relationships between morphological and genetic variation should be clarified. We investigated variations in nuclear microsatellites, chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) sequences and leaf morphological ...

Uncovering how populations of a species differ genetically and ecologically is important for understanding evolutionary processes. We investigated genetic structure using nuclear microsatellites and chloroplast DNA sequences and geographical variation in leaf morphological traits among Magnolia salicifolia populations across its entire range. Two distinct lineages, northern and southern, were detected genetically, and both lineages had substructure among populations. The width/length ratio and area ...

We obtained frequency increase of resonant tunneling diode (RTD) oscillators using thick spacer layers at the collector in sub-terahertz range. This is attributed to reduction of parasitic capacitance due to the increase of spacer layer thickness. The oscillation frequency increased from 325 to 425 GHz by the change of spacer layer thickness from 5 to 45 nm in reasonable agreement with theoretical calculation. Frequency switching with bias direction was also obtained for an RTD having an asymmetric ...

A ground-state phase transition of the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg ladder model is investigated by means of the exact-diagonalization method. A hidden-order correlation is defined for characterizing the ground state. The critical point and the exponent ν are estimated accurately with the use of the hidden-order correlation. The relevance of the resonating-valence-bond theory to the present system is also discussed by inspecting hidden orders and the elementary excitation.

The S=2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg open chain is analyzed with the real-space numerical renormalization-group method improved by White. The low-ly ing spectrum and the one-point function are evaluated to show the degeneracy and the boundary effect on the ground state. Generalized string correlation funct ions were calculated for θ=π and θ=π 2. The θ=π 2 string correlation is found to indicate the long-range hidden order of the ground state. These results are quite consistent with the S=2 VBS argument.

The dynamical behaviour of the Ising model with heat-bath dynamics is studied. According to our investigation of the model using the damage spreading method, the dynamical phase transition temperature is estimated as 4.52+or-0.03 for the 3D Ising model. The dynamical critical exponent z has been obtained as 2.16+or-0.04 for the 2D ferromagnet and 2.09+or-0.04 for the 3D Ising model. The scaling property of magnetization is obtained.

Isotropic spin-1 chains with bond alternation are studied. Analytic (both variational and perturbative) results are presented. A phase transition is found to separate the S=1 Haldane phase and the dimer phase. The critical point is numerically determined using the Binder parameter. The universality class is predicted to be given by the level-1 SU(2) Wess-Zumin-Witten model, and this prediction is supported by the present exact diagonalization study. The dimer phase is found to be connected to the " ...

Temperature dependence of the correlation length of the one-dimensional S =2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet is investigated numerically, to compare with those of the S =1/2, 1, 3/2 models. The correlation length of the S =2 model is found to be saturated to a value ξ -1 ≃0.012(2) as T →0, which confirms the Haldane conjecture. Combined with the estimate ξ -1 ≃0.16 of the S =1 model by other authors, the present estimate is well explained by ξ -1 ∼ S exp (-π S ).

The spin-glass susceptibility of the two-dimensional EA model is investigated by the numerical transfer-matrix method. It is found that the droplet picture gives a fairly good description of the critical behaviour. The critical exponent theta identical to -1/ nu is estimated as theta =-0.48(1), both through finite-size scaling and through the coherent-anomaly method (CAM). The present estimate is consistent with the authors' previous estimate theta =-0.476. These values do not, however, agree with the ...

Abstract Bolometers are rectification devices that convert electromagnetic waves into direct current voltage through a temperature change. A superconducting bolometer has a responsivity of approximately 10 6 –10 7 V/W under cryogenic temperatures at infrared wavelengths; however, no devices have realized such a high responsivity in the sub-GHz frequency region. We describe a spin bolometer with a responsivity of (4.40 ± 0.04) × 10 6 V/W in the sub-GHz region at room temperature using heat generated in ...

We report experimental and theoretical work on the dependence of oscillation frequency and output power on the offset of a feeding point and the aperture width of a slot antenna in sub-terahertz (THz) and THz resonant tunneling diode (RTD) oscillators.
