Auctions have recently become the most widely adopted approach globally to procure renewable energy projects. Countries starting to use auctions often struggle to secure sufficient bidder interest – resulting in limited competition levels and high project prices. Brazil, a pioneer in the use of auctions to stimulate investment in renewable energy projects, offers important lessons on not only how auctions can be designed and implemented to stimulate competition and deliver effective investment outcomes, ...

Chitosan, an abundant biopolymer extracted from crustacean shells, can be used as a structuring agent by the insertion of calcium oxide and used as a catalyst in transesterification reactions. These calcium-incorporated chitosan spheres were calcined in order to obtain a porous calcium catalyst without organic material. The materials were characterized using X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies, temperature-programmed desorption ...

The catalytic activity of precursor dolomite as a heterogeneous catalyst in biodiesel production has been investigated. The dolomitic material is a double calcium and magnesium carbonate, which when calcinated decomposes into CaO and MgO that are highly basic. The materials were characterized by XRD, TG–DTG, CO2-TPD, FTIR, XPS, SEM, and N2 adsorption/desorption at −196 °C. The raw material was activated and used as a catalyst for the transesterification of canola and sunflower oils with methanol. ...

Ubiquitously eXpressed Transcript isoform 2 (UXTV2) is a prefoldin-like protein involved in NF-κB signaling, apoptosis, and the androgen and estrogen response. UXT-V2 is a cofactor in the NF-κB transcriptional enhanceosome, and its knockdown inhibits TNF-α -induced NF-κB activation. Fbxo7 is an F-box protein that interacts with SKP1, Cullin1 and RBX1 proteins to form an SCF(Fbxo7) E3 ubiquitin ligase complex. Fbxo7 negatively regulates NF-κB signaling through TRAF2 and cIAP1 ubiquitination. We combine ...

Understanding protein-protein interactions is a key challenge in biochemistry. In this work, we describe a more accurate methodology to predict Hot-Spots (HS) in protein-protein interfaces from their native complex structure compared to previous published Machine Learning (ML) techniques. Our model is trained on a large number of complexes and on a significantly larger number of different structural- and evolutionary sequence-based features. In particular, we added interface size, type of interaction ...

Body mass index (BMI) has been used to assess body adiposity, but it cannot adequately reflect body fat (BF) amount. The body adiposity index (BAI) has been shown a better performance than BMI for this purpose, but it can be inaccurate to estimate BF under extreme amounts of fat. Here, we propose a new anthropometric index, the Belarmino-Waitzberg (BeW) index, for specific estimation of BF in severely obese patients. In 144 adult patients with severe obesity, BF was estimated by air displacement plethysmography ( ...

In Studies 1 and 2, we examine consumers' thoughts on coolness and communal connection when describing their encounters with service brands. In Study ...

The isothermal cold-crystallization of the glass-former low-molecular-weight compound, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA), was monitored by real-time dielectric relaxation spectroscopy (DRS) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The α-relaxation associated with the dynamic glass transition as detected by DRS was followed at different crystallization temperatures, Tcr, nearly above the glass transition temperature, 176 K (1.06 ≤ Tcr/Tg ≤ 1.12). It was found that the α-process depletes upon cold- ...

Abstract The dipolar relaxation mechanisms in poly(vinyl acetate) have been studied in detail using the technique of thermally stimulated currents. The papers published in the literature about this subject are very contradictory, particularly with respect to the assignment of the observed discharges to the corresponding motions at the molecular level. This work aims at clarifying these problems. We detected and characterised three different relaxation mechanisms: (1) a low temperature one (around − ...

In the present work the thermally stimulated currents technique was used to study the upper glass transition relaxations in two side-chain liquid crystalline polysiloxanes. The nature of those relaxations at the molecular level is a controversial subject, but our results lead us to suggest thay they correspond to the reorientational motions in the liquid crystalline phase of the longitudinal and transverse components of the dipole moment of the mesogenic side group. This assignment is compatible ...

The molecular mobility of amorphous ibuprofen has been investigated by broadband dielectric relaxation spectroscopy (DRS) covering a temperature range of more than 200 K. Four different relaxation processes, labeled as alpha, beta, gamma, and D, were detected and characterized, and a complete relaxation map was given for the first time. The gamma-process has activation energy E a = 31 kJ.mol (-1), typical for local mobility. The weak beta-relaxation, observed in the glassy state as well as in the supercooled ...

Annealing of the quenched ibuprofen at 258 K yielded a new crystalline form, called phase II. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns of this phase II were recorded with a laboratory diffractometer equipped with an INEL G3000 goniometer and a curved position-sensitive detector CPS120. The starting structural model was found by a Monte-Carlo simulated annealing method. The final structure was obtained through Rietveld refinements with rigid-body constraints for the phenyl group and soft restraints on the ...

Low- and high-frequency Raman experiments in the 5–200 cm−1 and 600–1800 cm−1 ranges were carried out in the crystalline and amorphous states of ibuprofen. Low-frequency investigations indubitably reveal the existence of a molecular disorder in the metastable phase (phase II), through the observation of quasielastic contribution below 30 cm−1, and the absence of phonon peaks in the Raman susceptibility which mimics the density of vibrational states of an amorphous state. High-frequency Raman spectra ...
