Compared to state-of-the-art IGBTs, SiC power semiconductors allow to achieve ever higher system efficiencies and higher power densities in next-generation Variable Speed Drives (VSDs), thanks to their smaller relative chip size, ohmic on-state characteristic and lower specific switching losses resulting in a smaller switching-stage footprint and lower heat sink as well as DC-link capacitor volumes. However, the high slew rate of the switching transitions, an inherent consequence of the low switching ...

Long-term symptoms after acute COVID-19 are highly debated. Nevertheless, data on long-term symptoms of COVID-19 in healthcare workers are scarce. We assessed frequency and risk factors of persisting symptoms in a retrospective cohort of healthcare workers infected with SARS-CoV-2.Persistent symptoms at 3 and 12 months were reported by 26.5% and 13.5% of participants, respectively. Most commonly reported symptoms were fatigue, impaired sense of taste or smell and general weakness. A history of depression ...

In order to measure anxiety in health care workers (HCWs) reporting occupational exposures to potentially contaminated body fluids, we enrolled 55 HCWs in a prospective study. Percutaneous and mucous membrane exposures were most frequent. 27% of study participants estimated their risk of HIV-infection as above 1%. Personality bound anxiety was not high, but acute anxiety showed a high variability. In a multiple regression model high personality bound anxiety, lower age and being a HCW other than ...

(i) To investigate whether there is a difference in the prevalence of seborrheic dermatitis (SD) between homo- or bisexual HIV-infected patients and HIV-infected intravenous drug users, (ii) to study whether the initial CD4 T cell count at the first positive HIV test is of any significance for the prevalence of SD and furthermore to analyze whether (iii) antiretroviral treatment influences the prevalence and time course of SD.Since 1992 we have been following, within the scope of the Swiss HIV Cohort ...

Background Current World Health Organization (WHO) antiretroviral therapy (ART) guidelines define virologic failure as two consecutive viral load (VL) measurements ≥1,000 copies/mL, triggering empiric switch to next-line ART. This trial assessed if patients with sustained low-level HIV-1 viremia on first-line ART benefit from a switch to second-line treatment. Methods and findings This multicenter, parallel-group, open-label, superiority, randomized controlled trial enrolled patients on first-line ART ...

Abstract Introduction The assignment for this working group was to update the existing knowledge regarding factors considered being of special relevance for the patient undergoing implant therapy. This included areas where conflicting opinions exists since long or recently has been expressed, like the role of antibiotic prophylaxis in dental implant surgery and peri‐implantitis. Also areas with growing interest and concern such as patient‐reported outcome measures ( PROM s) and health‐economy was ...

Background Community-based antiretroviral therapy (ART) dispensing by lay workers is an important differentiated service delivery model in sub-Sahara Africa. However, patients new in care are generally excluded from such models. Home-based same-day ART initiation is becoming widespread practice, but linkage to the clinic is challenging. The pragmatic VIBRA (Village-Based Refill of ART) trial compared ART refill by existing lay village health workers (VHWs) versus clinic-based refill after home-based ...

HIV-testing coverage remains below the targeted 90% despite efforts and resources invested. Home-based HIV-testing is a key approach endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO), especially to reach individuals who might not seek testing otherwise. Although acceptance of testing during such campaigns is high, coverage remains low due to absent household members. This cluster-randomized trial aims to assess increase in testing coverage using oral HIV self-testing (HIVST) among individuals who are ...
