Ionic liquids (ILs) are novel and chemically inert solvents for a wide range of reactions in organic synthesis and biocatalysis, and at least one of them is known to dissolve cellulose. ILs would provide novel options for cellulose degradation in homogenous catalysis if cellulases were sufficiently stable and active. By screening metagenomic libraries 24 novel cellulase clones were identified and tested for their performance in the presence of ILs. Most enzyme clones showed only very poor or no activities. ...

The industrial product (C(2)F(5))(3)PF(2) is transformed into the phosphinic acid chloride (C(2)F(5))(2)P(O)Cl, which reacts with an excess of Bu(3)SnH in a clean, multistep reaction to give the stannyl derivative (C(2)F(5))(2)POSnBu(3). Subsequent treatment with gaseous HBr leads to the formation of (C(2)F(5))(2)POH, which is isolated in 70 % yield. Besides (CF(3))(2)POH, bis(pentafluoroethyl)phosphinous acid, (C(2)F(5))(2)POH, represents the second known example of a phosphinous acid that is predicted ...

Straightforward syntheses of selected non-deuterated, partially deuterated, and fully deuterated room temperature ionic liquids (ILs) with the anions tris(pentafluoroethyl)trifluorophosphate, tetracyanoborate, and methyl sulfate were developed. The viscosity and the density of these ionic liquids were measured at various temperatures. The dissociation rate of the ionic liquid, the sizes of the cation and the anion, and the nature of the inter-ionic interaction are not influenced by deuteration, but ...

Electrolyte solutions have vital function in lithium-ion batteries. Due to their modular composition, there is a broad variety of electrolyte component combinations. In this work, we present electrochemical results on newly investigated electrolyte solution components. The standard electrolyte salt in commercial batteries, LIPF6, was replaced by new imide and sulfonate anion based salts, with enhanced stability. The use of propylene carbonate was enabled by the application of new SEI forming electrolyte ...

Abstract A highly efficient ionic liquid catalyst system for selective alkylation of phenol and anisole with alkenes is described. By using Brønsted acidic triflate ionic liquids containing the SO 3 H group attached to the cation, it was possible to recycle the catalyst and reuse it after a simple workup procedure. Moreover, selectivity towards the monoalkylated products was improved to 93 % by using a biphasic system.

The redox behaviour of di-, tri-, penta- and hexaphospha ferrocene complexes and of five transition metal carbonyl complexes of the triphospha ferrocene [Fe(η5-C2tBu2P3-(η5-C5Me5)] 2 has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The oxidation potential of the phospha ferrocene complexes is determined by the number of electron-donating alkyl groups and phosphorus atoms, the latter showing electron-withdrawing properties. Electrochemical investigations on metal carbonyl complexes of 2 revealed an anodic ...

The slow oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in concentrated phosphoric acid remains a major technological challenge for future development of phosphoric acid fuel cells (PAFCs) as well as its congener the high-temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells (HT-PEMFCs). Aiming to better understand the adsorption mechanisms, ...
