An experimental campaign was carried out at Central Geophysical Laboratory at Belsk (Poland) in October 2007. Three sun photometers: Cimel CE-318, Prede POM-01L and Microtops II were used to obtain the atmospheric aerosol optical characteristics. Cimel CE-318 and Prede POM-01L are automatic sun-tracking devices common in the world networks for aerosol investigations AERONET and SKYNET. Microtops II is a hand-held manual device often used in field experiments because of its mobility. The results obtained ...

We have examined the effects of 20 keV electron irradiation on [-Cu(1)-O(1)-]n chain oxygen arrangements in oxygen deficient but otherwise twin-free YBa2Cu3O6+x single crystals. Comparison of polarized Raman spectra of non-irradiated and irradiated areas provides evidence that electron bombardments instigate the collective hopping of oxygen atoms either from an interstitial at O(5) site to a vacant O(1) chain site or by reshuffling the chain segments to extend the average length of chains without ...

In this paper, the dielectric and microwave properties of carbon black/siloxane rubber-based nanocomposites have been investigated in the frequency range from 1 GHz till 12 GHz according to the content of carbon black and the frequency. It has been established that the increasing frequency and filler content lead to an increase in the relative permittivity and tangent of dielectric loss angle. At higher filler content, the effects become more pronounced, especially those upon dielectric loss. It ...

Abstract A new approach for improving the efficiency of a copper bromide vapour laser with wavelengths of 510.6 and 578.2 nm is implemented. Multi-factor and regression analyses of a large amount of experimental data have outlined the parameters with highest impact on the laser efficiency. They are electric input power, inside diameter of the rings, distance between the electrodes, inside diameter of the laser tube, hydrogen pressure and electric input power per unit length. The results obtained ...

The Raman spectra of CaFe2O4 were measured with several exact scattering configurations between 20 and 520K and the symmetry of all observed Raman lines was determined. The Ag and B2g lines were assigned to definite phonon modes by comparison to the results of lattice dynamical calculations. No anomaly of phonon parameters was observed near the magnetic ordering temperature TN = 160K.

The determination of the predominant tautomeric form of folate in solution is addressed theoretically and experimentally. DFT and atomistic molecular dynamics simulations are used to compare the most stable tautomers of folate. B3LYP/6–311+G(d) model chemistry shows that the lactam form of folate FA-N3 is the most energetically favorable tautomer. The lactam FA-N1 differs by about 2.5 kcal/mol. The conformation of the molecule does not influence markedly the energy ordering of the tautomers. Molecular ...

Polarized Raman spectra of oriented finely twinned ${\mathrm{CaMnO}}_{3}$ thin films and nonpolarized Raman spectra of ${\mathrm{CaMnO}}_{3}$ ceramics were studied at room temperature using several excitation laser wavelengths. The selection rules for the polarized Raman spectra, obtained from samples consisting of finely twinned orthorhombic domains, were calculated and the symmetry of all observed Raman lines was determined. The relationship between the intensity of the Raman lines and the distortions ...

Genus Nicotiana (Solanaceae) includes 76 species, among which only Nicotiana tabacum L. (common tobacco) is recognized as economically important.Nicotiana species synthesize various secondary metabolites with biological or ecological activities, but many of them still have not been sufficiently studied. The objective of current study was to determine the content of selected groups of metabolites (e.g., phenolic acids, flavonoids, and triterpenes) in the leaves and extracts of three Nicotiana species ( ...

Previously the authors have presented MLMC algorithms exploiting Multiscale Finite Elements and Reduced Bases as a basis for the coarser levels in the MLMC algorithm. In this paper a Renormalization based Multilevel Monte Carlo algorithm is discussed. The advantage of the renormalization as a basis for the coarse levels in MLMC is that it allows in a cheap way to create a reduced dimensional space with a variation which is very close to the variation at the finest level. This leads to especially ...

Many problems that incorporate uncertainty often requires solving a Stochastic Partial Differential Equation. Fast and efficient methods for solving such equations are of particular interest for computational fluid dynamics. Efficient methods for uncertainty quantification in porous media flow simulations are Multilevel Monte Carlo sampling based algorithms. They rely on sample drawing from a probability space. The error is quantified by the root mean square error. Although computationally they ...

We present the polarized Raman spectra of $\mathrm{La}\mathrm{Cr}{\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ measured between 5 and $863\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$ in several exact scattering configurations. All Raman lines below $600\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ are assigned to definite phonon modes of $Pnma$ $(\mathrm{T} 528\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K})$ structures on the basis of their polarization properties, comparison to spectra of isostructural compounds, and comparison to ...

The field of nanoinformatics is rapidly developing and provides data driven solutions in the area of nanomaterials (NM) safety. Safe by Design approaches are encouraged and promoted through regulatory initiatives and multiple scientific projects. Experimental data is at the core of nanoinformatics processing workflows for risk assessment. The nanosafety data is predominantly recorded in Excel spreadsheet files. Although the spreadsheets are quite convenient for the experimentalists, they also pose ...
