In the present study, the effect of the medial septal (MS) lesions on exploratory activity in the open field and the spatial and object recognition memory has been investigated. This experiment compares three types of MS lesions: electrolytic lesions that destroy cells and fibers of passage, neurotoxic – ibotenic acid lesions that spare fibers of passage but predominantly affect the septal noncholinergic neurons, and immunotoxin – 192 IgG-saporin infusions that only eliminate cholinergic neurons. The ...

Abstract Background Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease that causes progressive cognitive decline over age 65. Individuals suffering from this disease suffer memory loss, and histological examination of the brains. Okadaic acid (OA), is a potent and selective inhibitor of protein phosphatases 1 and 2A. Intracerebroventricular (ICV) administration of OA can produce an Alzheimer‐like hyperphosphorylation of tau protein. Therefore, it was suggested that intracerebral injection of OA ...

Abuse of toluene-containing volatile inhalants, particularly among youth, is of significant medical and social concern worldwide. Teenagers constitute the most abundant users of toluene and the majority of adult abusers of toluene started as teenagers. Although the euphoric and neurotoxic effects of acute toluene have been widely studied, lasting effects of chronic toluene exposure, especially in various age groups, have not been well investigated. In this study, we used adolescent and adult male ...
