Amplaria nazinta (Chamberlin, 1910) is redescribed from freshly collected male specimens and its identity as a species of Amplaria Chamberlin, 1941 is confirmed. We amend the diagnosis of Amplaria, and for the first time report the presence of a limbus in a chordeumatidan millipede.

Background and Aims The obesity epidemic has led to increased use of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB). These patients have an increased incidence of pancreaticobiliary diseases, yet standard ERCP is not possible because of surgically altered gastroduodenal anatomy. Laparoscopy-assisted ERCP (LA-ERCP) has been proposed as an option, but supporting data are derived from single-center small case series. Therefore, we conducted a large multicenter study to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and outcomes of LA-ERCP. ...

Abstract Background and aims Rectal lesions traditionally represent the first lesions approached during endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) training in the West. We evaluated the safety and efficacy of rectal ESD in North America. Methods This is a multicenter retrospective analysis of rectal ESD between January 2010 and September 2018 in 15 centers. End points included: rates of en bloc resection, R0 resection, adverse events, comparison of pre- and post-ESD histology, and factors associated ...

Obesity is a risk factor for colorectal cancer, yet metabolic distinctions between healthy right and left colon tissue, before cancer is diagnosed, remains largely unknown. This study compared right-ascending and left-descending colon tissue metabolomes to identify differences from the stool metabolome in normal weight, overweight, and obese adults. To examine right and left colon tissue metabolites according to body mass index that may serve as mechanistic targets for interventions and biomarkers ...

Background. In patients with benign biliary strictures, the use of fully covered self-expandable metal stents (SEMS) has been proposed as an alternative to plastic stenting, but high quality prospective data are sparse. This study was performed to evaluate the long-term effectiveness and safety of a new fully covered SEMS for benign biliary strictures. Methods. All consecutive patients with benign biliary strictures were treated with placement of a fully covered SEMS (WallFlex) for 6 months. Short- ...

A flexible, powerful, and interactive computer-assisted measurement system is described, based on a 16-bit minicomputer and an extensive set of peripherals. A general purpose hardware-software configuration is described which enables different users to computerize measurements in completely unrelated experiments, with minimal changes in interfacing. General purpose subroutines to control the digitizing of measurements are FORTRAN -callable from user programs. The result is a system for computer-assisted ...

Introduction: RYGB is the most common weight loss procedure in the United States. Standard ERCP is not feasible and enteroscopy assisted ERCP tends to be technically challenging with low success rate in these patients. Laparoscopy-assisted (lap-assist) ERCP has been proposed through small, single-center, case series. Therefore we conducted a multicenter, nationwide study to evaluate the feasibility, safety and outcomes of this approach. Methods: This is an IRB approved, retrospective study that included ...

Colonoscopy using standard adult colonoscopes can be difficult in patients with fixed, angulated sigmoid colons. An earlier study from the same center suggested that in women who have had hysterectomy, successful colonoscopy occurred with greater frequency when initiated with a pediatric colonoscope versus an adult colonoscope. This follow-up study was a nonblinded clinical trial comparing the use of a pediatric colonoscope with an adult colonoscope for routine colonoscopy in women with previous ...

Introduction: Intermittent scant hematochezia is a common pattern of lower GI bleeding encountered in primary care. Two recent prospective trials, 1, 2 yielded conflicting results regarding the association with rectal bleeding and the finding of colorectal neoplasia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the endoscopic findings in a population of patients from the Omaha VA medical center (OVAMC), with hematochezia, referred from their primary care provider for colonoscopy. Methods: We analyzed all ...

Introduction/Background: The pool of candidates for BS is expected to increase by 10-12%/year. Roughly 200,000 BS will be performed in 2005. 10% to 20% of these patients suffer symptoms after surgery, frequently requiring endoscopic evaluation (EGD). The frequency of postoperative EGD and the endoscopic findings in this growing population have not been well described. Methods: We analyzed our prospectively collected database for all BS patients since January 2001. We evaluated patient demographics, ...

Adoption of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) in North America has been limited by procedural complexity, steep learning curve, and risk for serious adverse events (AE). In the West, rectal lesions have traditionally been approached early in the endoscopist learning curve due to the perceived lower degree of technical difficulty and rate of AE; however, recent data have raised concerns of lower complete (R0) resection rates and higher risk for bleeding after ESD in the rectum.
