Porfírio P. Filipe, Nuno Mamede,

The design of spoken language applications that allow people to talk with machines/computers, in the same way that they talk with each other, is materialized as a Spoken Dialogue System (SDS). This paper presents a knowledge modeling approach to allow spontaneous configuration of SDS. Our approach focus on the representation and management of the domain knowledge that is aggregated at runtime and aims to update the dialogue management strategy. To do so, one developed an autonomous Environment Interaction ...

We investigated the genetic composition of six Canis remains from western Iberia, directly radiocarbon dated to 7,903-7,570 years (cal BP).They were identified as dogs via their archaeological and depositional context, osteometry, and a high percentage of aquatic diet shared with humans. For comparison, genetic data were obtained from an additional 37 Iberian dog remains from the Neolithic to Late Antiquity, as well as two Palaeolithic and a Chalcolithic Canis identified as wolves.Previous data indicated ...

We analyse new genomic data (0.05–2.95x) from 14 ancient individuals from Portugal distributed from the Middle Neolithic (4200–3500 BC) to the Middle Bronze Age (1740–1430 BC) and impute genomewide diploid genotypes in these together with published ancient Eurasians. While discontinuity is evident in the transition to agriculture across the region, sensitive haplotype-based analyses suggest a significant degree of local hunter-gatherer contribution to later Iberian Neolithic populations. A more subtle ...

This paper describes a task repository, a device semantic interface to express device capabilities, and an advice algorithm that suggests the best task-device pair to satisfy a request. The purpose of the task repository is the adaptation of a pervasive environment (Ambient Intelligence) to support natural language applications, such as a natural language interface. The task repository has a predefined group of concepts linked to linguistic and semantic resources and is updated, at runtime, with ...

We developed an Indoor Positioning System (IPS) as part of the effort of creating Ubicomp applications with user interfaces distributed across different co-located devices. It relies on a Client that runs on the devices that we intend to locate and a Server that determines their positions. It currently supports three positioning methods: fingerprinting, trilateration and proximity. Bluetooth Low Energy and Wi-Fi are used as the underlying technologies for the positioning methods. We tested multiple ...

The European Observatory of Wildlife (EOW) as part of the ENETWILD project, aims to improve the European capacity for monitoring wildlife populations, implementing international standards for data collection, providing guidance on wildlife density estimation, and finally, to promote collaborative, open data networks to develop wildlife monitoring, initially focusing on terrestrial wild mammals. This report presents density estimates for species that are widely distributed (wild boar (Sus scrofa), European ...

Background: Patients with left main coronary artery (LMCA) stenosis are considered to be vulnerable population that requires reliable assessment of functional significance of lesions observed on coronary angiography. The aim of this study was to determine the prognostic value of noninvasively measured coronary flow reserve (CFR) in patients with angiographically assessed intermediate LMCA stenosis during long-term follow up.Methods: Ninety eight patients, 60.2+9.1 years of age, 83 (84.7%) patients male, ...
