Background. An increased incidence of alveolar echinococcosis (AE) in patients with immunosuppression (IS) has been observed; our aim was to study this association and its characteristics. Methods. IgG subclasses of anti-double-stranded DNA antibodies were determined in 182 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. All isotypes were detected, but IgG1 and IgG3 were predominant (62 and 51% of the cases, respectively). An average of 64 ± 27% was IgG1, 16 ± 22% IgG2, 16 ± 19% IgG3 and 4 ± 10% IgG4. We report a leukocytoclastic vasculitis with IGA depositis in a thirty-eight years old patient developed during alpha interferon treatment for hairy cell leukemia. Despite good hematologic response in hairy cell leukemia, ifn may induce auto immune disorders but rarely auto immune vasculitis.

The IgG sub-classes of anti-ds DNA antibodies were quantitated in 242 sera from 219 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. IgGl- and IgG3-autoantibodies were predominant, whereas the proportion of IgG2 correlated with the level of interleukin-4.
