Summary Historical, artefactual and place‐name evidence indicates that S candinavian migrants moved to eastern E ngland in the ninth century AD , settling in the D anelaw. However, only a handful of characteristically S candinavian burials have been found in the region. One, widely held, explanation is that most of these S candinavian settlers quickly adopted local C hristian burial customs, thus leaving S candinavians indistinguishable from the A nglo‐ S axon population. The security of Internet of Things (IoT) devices is one of the most important problems to be addressed by the cryptographers and security engineers. The processing ability of IoT devices is limited, therefore light-weight and secure cryptographic tools are necessary for security of them. This paper shows the implementation of 256-bit Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) on an 8-bit microcontroller. The proposed implementation applies towering technique for extension field of degree 32 with a certain ...

The Early Bronze Age round barrows at Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire and Gayhurst, Buckinghamshire contained remarkably large quantities of cattle (Bos taurus) remains. At Irthlingborough, at least 185 skulls with smaller numbers of mandibles, shoulder blades and pelves were found together with a small number of skeletal elements from aurochs (Bos primigenius). In contrast, the remains from Gayhurst are dominated by the limb bones from more than 300 animals. This study employed strontium isotope ...

Richard Montgomery, Michail Zhitomirskii,

Cartan introduced the method of prolongation which can be applied either to manifolds with distributions (Pfaffian systems) or integral curves to these distributions. Repeated application of prolongation to the plane endowed with its tangent bundle yields the Monster tower, a sequence of manifolds, each a circle bundle over the previous one, each endowed with a rank 2 distribution. In an earlier paper (2001), the authors proved that the problem of classifying points in the Monster tower up to symmetry ...

A key goal for archaeozoology is to define and characterise pastoral farming strategies. In the last decade, some of the most innovative approaches for addressing these questions have centred on the mammalian dentition, including inter alia sequential sampling of stable isotopes, dental microwear analysis and the study of dental pathologies. It is when these techniques are integrated and combined with more traditional approaches, such as tooth eruption and wear, however, that their full potential ...

Bioarchaeological evidence suggests that the site of Grimes Graves, Norfolk, characterised by the remains of several hundred Late Neolithic flint mineshafts, was a permanently settled community with a mixed farming economy during the Mid-Late Bronze Age (c. 1400 BCE – c. 800 BCE). The aim of this study was to investigate, through isotope ratio analysis (87Sr/86Sr, δ13C and δ18O), the origins and husbandry of Bronze Age cattle (Bos taurus) excavated from a mineshaft known as the “1972 shaft”.
