In this work is evaluated the performance of etched fiber Bragg gratings, assembled in different configurations to operate as a refractometric sensor, in the analysis of water-ethanol mixtures. Two fiber Bragg gratings operating close to 1300 nm and 1500 nm were wet-etched and employed in the sensor design. Four configurations for the refractometric sensor were studied, in dual-wavelength and single-wavelength operation modes, and at two sample temperatures. Calibration curves were determined for ...

A wideband patch antenna is proposed. By using the dual-layer patch configuration and modified L-strip feed technique, the impedance bandwidth of the patch antenna for VSWR<1.2 is broadened to 22% with respect to 900 MHz, which is superior to the other available patch antennas. In addition, by means of the modified L-shaped strip, the high cross polarization levels of the proposed antenna are suppressed effectively. Simulation results are compared with the measurements, and a good agreement is obtained. ...

A compact CPW-fed ultra-wideband antenna with dual band-notch characteristic is presented. Two notched frequency bands are obtained by embedding two U-shaped slots in the radiation patch and a rectangle slot in the ground plane. The two notched bands can be controlled by adjusting the length of the responding slots. The proposed antenna is successfully simulated, fabricated and tested. Experimental and numerical antenna shows that the proposed antenna with compact size of 21×28mm2, has an impedance ...

Recent studies proved that certain electronic active circuits are capable to exhibit simultaneously a negative group delay (NGD) and amplification in microwave frequency bands. One of the simplest topologies generating this counterintuitive NGD function effect is formed by a series RLC-network in cascade with a transistor. By using this cell, similar to the classical electronic functions, dual-band NGD microwave devices with loss compensation possibility can be designed. Theoretic demonstrations ...

A novel compact wideband high-rejection lowpass filter (LPF) using H-DGS is presented. The proposed filter has neither open stub nor cascaded high-low impedance elements. It consists of two coupled H-slots in the ground plane along with a compensated line. The effect of the new slot on the filter performance is examined. The comparison with the conventional filters shows that the proposed one guarantees a large rejected-band of 20dB from 2.5 to 16 GHz. Experimental measurements by means of HP8719D ...

We compared this approach, by means of a Monte Carlo numerical simulation, to the typical peak tracking techniques applied in classic interrogation systems. As result, we obtained a considerable gain in terms of noise tolerance (about 20 dB), which can be further incremented by selecting large-bandwidth gratings. This permits to increase the power budget of a fiber Bragg grating ...
