The complete mitochondrial genome of the Japanese wobbegong Orectolobus japonicus was presented in this study. It is 16,706 bp in length with the typical gene composition and arrangement in the mitochondrial genome of vertebrates. The overall base composition is 32.6% A, 24.0% C, 13.3% G and 30.1% T.
