Abstract Panthera gombaszoegensis is a fossil pantherine from the Pleistocene of Eurasia. It has been considered to be the closest ancestor the jaguar ( Panthera onca) due to dental similarities, and has even sometimes been considered to be a subspecies of jaguar.
