Abstract Light detection technologies are of interest due to their applications in energy conversion and optical communications. Single‐crystal organic semiconductors, such as rubrene, present high detectivities and charge carrier mobility, making them attractive for light‐sensing applications. Growth of high crystallinity organic crystals is achieved using vapor processes, forming crystals of arbitrary shapes and orientations and requiring posterior patterning processes. However, patterning the ...

We report the electrical conductivity enhancement of a perylene-based MOF upon partial ligand oxidation. The conductivity enhancement is rationalised by quantum-chemical calculations, supporting a through-space hopping transport.

Masson's tumour, also known as intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia, is a rare non-neoplastic lesion of vascular origin, caused by an excessive reactive proliferation of endothelial cells in normal blood vessels or vascular malformations. It can affect any part of the body, presenting most frequently in the vessels of the head, neck and upper extremities. The authors describe the case of a 76-year-old female patient presenting an anterior cervical mass, measuring 2×2 cm, which was mobile, ...

Thrombocytopenia may be the initial presentation of sarcoidosis, which is a systemic granulomatous disorder. Various pathophysiological mechanisms have been identified. Immune thrombocytopenia often has a severe presentation but may respond favourably to immunosuppressive therapy. There are no guidelines for the treatment of thrombocytopenia in sarcoidosis. However, in emergency situations with major bleeding, it seems reasonable to apply the current guidelines recommended for immune thrombocytopenia. ...

π-Extended derivatives of the electron donor (D) α-dithiophenetetrathiafulvalene (α-DT-TTF) were prepared for the first time. The compounds consisting of α-DT-TTF covalently linked to N-alkylated phthalimides (Phth) or thieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6-dione (TPD), as the acceptors (A), in a A-D-A arrangements, were synthesized through microwave-assisted Stille cross-coupling reactions. DFT calculations reveal that the α-DT-TTF unit is coplanar with the TPD plane while a light twist occurs with the Phth end-unit, ...

Statin-induced necrotizing autoimmune myopathy (SINAM) is a rare, disabling, and potentially life-threatening complication of statin use. Although not fully understood, a prevailing hypothesis proposes that statins induce molecular changes in 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR), leading to the formation of anti-HMGCR antibodies. The subsequent myofibre necrosis is expressed as progressive and persistent proximal muscle weakness and elevated creatine kinase (CK) levels. The authors describe ...

The iliopsoas muscle abscess is a rare condition that may occur by hematological/lymphatic dissemination or secondary to local infections, namely rare situations of kidney infection. Its early identification plays an essential role for an therapeutic and good prognosis. The authors present a rare complication of a very common pathology in the internist’s clinical practice, highlighting the importance to consider the iliopsoas muscle as a possible difficulty in patients with urinary tract infections ...
