Pertussis toxin ADP-ribosylates a specific Cys side chain in the α-subunit of several G-proteins. Recombinant Giα1-subunits were rapidly ADP-ribosylated in the absence of βγ-subunits, with a Km of 800 μM and a kcat of 40 min-1. We report the time-domain analysis of fast pulses emitted by a quantum cascade laser (QCL) operating at ~ 3.1 THz using superconducting THz detectors made from either NbN or YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7-δ (YBCO) thin films. The ultrafast response from these detectors allows resolution of emission features occurring on a nanosecond time-scale, which is not possible with commercially available Ge or InSb bolometers owing to their much larger time constants. Draft genome sequences have been determined for the soybean pathogen Phytophthora sojae and the sudden oak death pathogen Phytophthora ramorum. Oömycetes such as these Phytophthora species share the kingdom Stramenopila with photosynthetic algae such as diatoms, and the presence of many Phytophthora genes of probable phototroph origin supports a photosynthetic ancestry for the stramenopiles.
