SUMMARY Batch adsorption experiments were conducted with a mixture of solutes at low equilibrium concentrations of Cd (0.7‐12.6 μg1 −1 ), Co (18‐118μg1 −1 , Ni (22‐330 μg 1 −1 ), and Zn (40‐1480 μg1 −1 ) in 38 different soils. Statistical correlations indicated that metal sorption onto the soils was influenced by the presence of clays and hydrous oxides of Fe and Mn. Based on calculated distribution coefficients for these metals, Co will generally exhibit the highest mobility in soils, but the mobility of Zn will ...

Paul Anderson, Thomas Reps, Tim Teitelbaum, M. Zarins,

Software inspection is a proven technique to improve quality and reduce costs. Detailed source code inspections are an important part of the formal inspection process, but they require a significant time investment. Research advances in static program analysis can reduce the inspection time required. By calculating answers to standard inspection questions, CodeSurfer frees experts to focus their efforts on more challenging inspection issues. CodeSurfer provides access to and answers queries about ...

Paul Anderson, Thomas Reps, Tim Teitelbaum,

Although software inspection has led to improvements in software quality, many software systems continue to be deployed with unacceptable numbers of errors, even when software inspection is part of the development process. The difficulty of manually verifying that the software under inspection conforms to the rules is partly to blame. We describe the design and implementation of a tool designed to help alleviate this problem. The tool provides mechanisms for fine-grained inspection of software by ...

Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α is a major cytokine produced by alveolar macrophages in response to pathogen-associated molecular patterns such as lipopolysaccharide. TNF-α secretion is regulated at both transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. Post-transcriptional regulation occurs by modulation of TNF-α mRNA stability via the binding of tristetraprolin (TTP) to the adenosine/uridine-rich elements found in the 3′-untranslated region of the TNF-α transcript. Phosphorylation plays important roles ...

Thomas Anderson, Paul Montague, Nancy L. Nadon, Klaus‐A. Nave, Ian R. Griffiths,

The X-linked proteolipid protein (Plp) gene encodes PLP, the major protein of central nervous system myelin, and its alternative RNA splice product, termed DM20. Schwann cells also express the Plp gene but, in contrast to oligodendrocytes, neither protein is incorporated into peripheral myelin. In the present study, we use different transgenes encoding PLP and DM20 to modify the expression of these proteins in myelin-forming Schwann cells of wild-type and jimpy mice. Increasing the level of PLP, ...
