Conilon coffee (Coffea canephora Pierre ex A. Froehner) is an important agricultural crop in Brazil due to its high economic value. This plant species is sensitive to the effects of high levels of solar radiation and temperature, which could limit its wide cultivation in the Brazilian Northeast region. However, management practices such as shading could increase the feasibility of its cultivation. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different shading methods and the use of calcium particle ...

Cashew (Anacardium occidentale L.) is composed of two distinct parts: the nut (fruit), which represents only 10% of the total weight of the harvested product, and the cashew apple (pseudo-fruit), usually known as cashew. This study aimed to determine the hydrocooling temperature of cashew apples and its effects on quality maintenance. Cashews were hydrocooled (HC) by immersion in chlorinated water at 1, 3, 5 and 7 °C. Fruit were cooled in a refrigerator at 5 °C as controls. After treatments, all the fruit ...

Plants undergoing any kind of water stress, whether due to excess or lack of water, undergo changes in their biochemical and physiological system, compromising their development. The effects of different irrigation levels on the physiological parameters (chlorophyll content, chlorophyll a fluorescence and gas exchange) and yield of okra were evaluated. Four levels of irrigation were evaluated (very low (25% of ETc); low (50% of ETc); moderate (75% of ETc) and well-irrigated (100% of ETc). The values of ...

This study’s main goal is to use hydrocooling and edible coating, associated with calcium, to preserve commercial fresh fruit quality, and extend the shelf life of cashew apples (Anacardium occidentale L.). The Cashews were subjected to four treatments: hydrocooling at 5 °C (HY), hydrocooling at 5 °C combined with calcium chloride application (HYCa), edible corn starch-based coating (EC), and edible corn starch-based coating enriched with calcium (ECCa). All treatments maintained under refrigeration for ...

Biochar has been recently used as an alternative strategy to improve soil quality and plant growth in metal contaminated soils. However, the effects of biochar on gas exchange parameters such photosynthetic rate (A), water use efficiency (WUE) and instantaneous carboxylation efficiency (ICE) in metal tolerant plant species in contaminated soils is still unknown. Such information is important to understand how different biochar types can influence plant biomass production and metal uptake. Hence, a ...

Most countries worldwide are making efforts to diversify their energy supplies, employing alternative sources of energy that can minimize environmental impacts. Wind power is especially attractive in countries with abundances of territory and wind, such as Brazil. One of the main components of wind generators is the turbine blade, which is essentially composed of a metal structure enveloped in glass fiber and epoxy resin, together with wood and adhesive. The aim of this work was to incorporate a ...

Precision Agriculture is a broad, systemic, and multidisciplinary subject, dealing with an integrated information and technology management system, based on the concepts that the variability of space and time influence crop yields. Precision farming aims at more comprehensive management of the agricultural production system as a whole. It uses a set of tools, instruments, and sensors to measure or detect parameters or targets of interest in the agroecosystem. Sensors are distributed in the environment ...

The increasing popularity of applications with tight latency requirements has motivated research on Edge Computing, which positions computing resources near data sources at the Internet's edge. Despite the emergence of simulation tools that make prototype validation less complex, time-consuming, and expensive, researchers and practitioners still face significant challenges when developing resource management strategies for the edge, as existing simulators fall short in providing a fine-grained model ...

Tomato is one of the world´s more important vegetables and demands a high consumption of water in production. Climate conditions with high levels of temperatures, solar radiation, and water restriction events affect plant physiology, reproduction, and fruit quality. Particle films (PF) of kaolin have been demonstrated to be an alternative and efficient technology to promote tomato protection. However, researches with PF from calcium materials are scarce, and when considering the physiological needs ...

We present results of the first fully dynamical lattice QCD determination of nucleon-nucleon scattering lengths in the 1S0 channel and 3S1 - 3D1 coupled channels. The calculations are performed with domain-wall valence quarks on the MILC staggered configurations with a lattice spacing of b = 0.125 fm in the isospin-symmetric limit, and in the absence of electromagnetic interactions.

We compute the ratio of pseudoscalar decay constants ${f}_{K}/{f}_{\ensuremath{\pi}}$ using domain-wall valence quarks and rooted improved Kogut-Susskind sea quarks, at a lattice spacing of $b\ensuremath{\sim}0.125\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{fm}$. By employing continuum chiral perturbation theory, we extract the Gasser-Leutwyler low-energy constant ${L}_{5}$ and extrapolate ${f}_{K}/{f}_{\ensuremath{\pi}}$ to the physical point. We find ${f}_{K}/{f}_{\ensuremath{\pi}}=1.218\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.002}_{\ensuremath{-} ...

In this work we outline a program for lattice QCD that would greatly contribute to understanding the strong and weak interactions of strange baryons. The low-energy effective field theory describing hyperon–nucleon scattering in QCD and partially-quenched QCD is constructed. This framework will allow lattice simulations of the low-energy scattering parameters to be extrapolated to the physical values of the quark masses. We explore the long-standing discrepancies in the P-wave amplitudes for non- ...

The two-nucleon sector is near an infrared fixed point of QCD and as a result the S-wave scattering lengths are unnaturally large compared to the effective ranges and shape parameters. It is usually assumed that a lattice QCD simulation of the two-nucleon sector will require a lattice that is much larger than the scattering lengths in order to extract quantitative information. In this paper we point out that this does not have to be the case: lattice QCD simulations on much smaller lattices will ...

We show that a central ${1/r}^{n}$ singular potential (with $n>~2)$ is renormalized by a one-parameter square-well counterterm; low-energy observables are made independent of the square-well width by adjusting the square-well strength. We find a closed form expression for the renormalization-group evolution of the square-well counterterm.

Concept drift detectors are online learning software that mostly attempt to estimate the drift positions in data streams in order to modify the base classifier after these changes and improve accuracy. This is very important in applications such as the detection of anomalies in TCP/IP traffic and/or frauds in financial transactions.
