Compounds with the formula [Ln(pic)3(trans-DTSO2)2] (Ln=La–Lu and Y) were obtained by reaction of hydrated lanthanide picrates with trans-1,3-dithiane-1,3-dioxide (trans-DTSO2) in absolute ethanol. Lanthanide contents were determined by titration with EDTA; CHN were determined by microanalytical procedures. Data are in good accordance with the proposed stoichiometry. Compounds with composition [Ln(cis-DTSO2)4(H2O)2](pic)3 (pic=picrate, Ln=Pr–Lu and Y) were obtained by reaction of hydrated lanthanide picrate with cis-DTSO2 in absolute ethanol. The adducts were characterized by elemental analyses and IR spectra. The parameters obtained from the absorption spectrum of the solid Nd compound indicate that the metal–ligand bonds present weak covalent character. The authors made an up-to-date review of the literature concerning the management of Zinner's syndrome and evaluated a young patient with Zinner's syndrome who had presented with urinary and ejaculatory complaints. Physical examination and transrectal ultra-sonography showed a 7.0 cm right seminal vesicle cyst. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) confirmed the diagnosis of Zinner's syndrome. Abstract Between 1 September and 4 October 2014, a combined airborne and ground-based measurement campaign was conducted to study tropical deep convective clouds over the Brazilian Amazon rain forest. During the preparation of the complex of hydrated uranyl nitrate with the ligand cis-DTSO 2 in ethanolic solution at 50°C, a molecule of the ligand suffered an unexpected oxidation giving rise to propanedisulfonate which acts both as bidentate ligand and as counterion. Lanthanide nitrate complexes with 1,3-dithiane-1-oxide (DTSO) were synthesized by reaction of the hydrated lanthanide nitrates with DTSO in triethyl-ortho-formate. Complexometric analyses with EDTA and CHN microanalytical procedures are indicative of a general formula Ln(NO3)3·3DTSO, where Ln=Nd–Lu and Y.
