The process of generating raw genome sequence data continues to become cheaper, faster, and more accurate. However, assembly of such data into high-quality, finished genome sequences remains challenging. Many genome assembly tools are available, but they differ greatly in terms of their performance (speed, scalability, hardware requirements, acceptance of newer read technologies) and in their final output (composition of assembled sequence). More importantly, it remains largely unclear how to best ...

SiO(2) supported cobalt (Co) catalyst could be partially reduced and anchored by unreduced Co ions during a carbon monoxide (CO) chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process. This resulted in the formation of sub-nanometre metallic Co clusters catalyzing the growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) with a narrow diameter distribution.

We have developed a magnesia (MgO)-supported iron−copper (FeCu) catalyst to accomplish the growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) using carbon monoxide (CO) as the carbon source at ambient pressure. The FeCu catalyst system facilitates the growth of small-diameter SWNTs with a narrow diameter distribution. UV−vis−NIR optical absorption spectra and photoluminescence excitation (PLE) mapping were used to evaluate the relative quantities of the different (n,m) species. We have also demonstrated ...

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were successfully grown on calcined stainless steel wires at 700 °C using CO as the carbon source. By contrast, the raw stainless steel wires produced only necklace-like multi-walled carbon nanotubes. Photoluminescence spectroscopy studies showed that SWCNTs grown from calcined stainless steel have a narrow diameter distribution and a high chiral selectivity of (6,5) nanotubes. The pre-growth heat treatment of the stainless steel leads to formation of iron and ...

Single‐walled carbon nanotubes can serve as a template for formation of various structures inside. Depending on conditions, the nanotube filling with coronene molecules may lead to creation of coronene stacks, graphene nanoribbons, or inner tubes. In this work, the formation of coronene stacks inside single‐walled carbon nanotubes was studied using photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. We demonstrate the difference in the excitation PL maps between the spectral features of coronene stacks inside the ...

Single‐walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) have unique electronic and optical properties, which are attractive in various applications. These properties can be further improved by functionalization. In this work, it is shown that filling nanotubes with CuCl leads to improvement of their electro‐conductive and optical transmission properties up to outstanding level. The improvement is due to the significant p‐type doping of the functionalized nanotubes. That leads to a huge increase in nanotubes charge ...

We report the photoluminescence (PL) from graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) encapsulated in single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). New PL spectral features originating from GNRs have been detected in the visible spectral range. PL peaks from GNRs have resonant character, and their positions depend on the ribbon geometrical structure in accordance with the theoretical predictions. GNRs were synthesized using confined polymerization and fusion of coronene molecules. GNR@SWCNTs material demonstrates a bright ...

Pre-eclampsia (PE) is a complication of pregnancy that affects 5‑8% of women after 20 weeks of gestation. It is usually diagnosed based on the de novo onset of hypertension and proteinuria. Preexisting hypertension in women developing PE, also known as superimposed PE on chronic hypertension (SPE), leads to elevated risk of maternal and fetal mortality. PE is associated with an altered microRNA (miRNA) expression pattern in the placenta, suggesting that miRNA deregulation is involved in the pathogenesis ...

MgO supported monometallic Fe (FeMgO) and bimetallic FeMn (FeMnMgO) catalysts were developed for growing carbon nanotubes using CO as carbon source. Since most Fe cations in the solid solution are difficult to reduce, FeMgO can only catalyze the growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) at temperatures of 700 °C and above.
