This paper deals with structural (in-situ XRD) and electrochemical characterization of high-voltage lithium-ion cathode materials LiMn2O4 (LMO), LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 (LNMO), and LiCr0.1Ni0.4Mn1.5O4 (LCNMO) prepared by solid-state synthesis. Structural in-situ X-ray diffraction spectra were measured by an affordable Rigaku diffractometer. Our synthesis route produced the samples with similar morphologies where the average particle sizes were 1.11 µm and 1.46 µm for LNMO and LCNMO respectively. Results of the ...

Actual shape of the indenter is very important parameter affecting the results and interpretation of nanoindentation tests. In this study, bluntness of the tip was determined by direct (atomic force microscopy) and indirect methods (indentation into reference materials) for different states of the indenter over its lifetime. It was found that the equivalent radius depends on the used analysis method. Moreover, equivalent radius changes with the distance from indenter apex. Axisymmetric 2D sphero-conical ...

Abstract The number of herbivores in populations of ectothermic vertebrates decreases with increasing latitude. At higher latitudes, fish consuming plant matter are exclusively omnivorous. We assess whether omnivorous fish readily shift to herbivory or whether animal prey is typically preferred. We address temperature as the key factor causing their absence at higher latitudes and discuss the potential poleward dispersion caused by climate changes. A controlled experiment illustrates that rudd ( Scardinius ...

A quasi-continuously pumped picosecond oscillator-amplifier laser system based on two identical 2.4% Nd:YAG slabs in a single bounce geometry was developed and investigated. The oscillator was passively mode locked by the multiple quantum well saturable absorber inserted into the resonator in transmission mode. Output train containing 7 pulses with total energy of 900 μJ was generated directly from the oscillator. Single pulse with energy of 75 μJ, duration of 113 ps and Gaussian spatial profile ...

Radek Čech, Petr Pajas, Ján Mačutek,

Abstract The aim of the article is to introduce a new approach to verb valency analysis. This approach – full valency – observes properties of verbs which occur solely in actual language usage. The term "full valency" means that all arguments, without distinguishing complements (obligatory arguments governed by the verb) and adjuncts (optional arguments directly dependent on the predicate verb), are taken into account. Because of an expectation that full valency reflects some mechanism which governs verb ...

A quasi-continuously pumped picosecond oscillator-amplifier Nd:GdVO4 laser system based on two identical slabs in a single bounce geometry is reported. Pulse duration is from 160 to 55 ps resulting from the pulse shortening along the extended mode locked train from passively mode locked oscillator, which was measured directly from a single laser shot. The shortest 55 ps long cavity dumped single pulses from the oscillator with the energy of 15±1 μJ and the contrast better than 10-3 were amplified ...

Electro-optically Q-switched flash-lamp pumped Pr:YAP laser was demonstrated. Employing LiNbO3 Pockels cell in quarter-wave configuration giant pulses with an energy and length of 5 mJ and 50 ns, respectively, were obtained at 747 nm wavelength. Laser oscillator was operating at room temperature and with 0.5 Hz repetition rate. Considering that the Pr:YAP output radiation is naturally polarized, the necessity of polarizer presence inside resonator was also investigated.

Population dynamics of polyphosphate-accumulating bacteria (PP bacteria) was studied in a laboratory sequencing batch reactor simulating anaerobic-oxic sludge system. The competition between PP bacteria and another microorganism (“G bacteria”) for anaerobic-oxic utilization of acetate as the sole source of organic carbon was observed. The competition was found to be seriously influenced by protozoan and metazoan grazing: Predation-resistant “G bacteria” forming large compact flocs outcompeted PP bacteria. ...

ABSTRACT: The competition between polyphosphate accumulating bacteria (PolyP bacteria) and a group of microorganisms not accumulating polyphosphate (tentatively named “G bacteria”) was observed in a laboratory sequencing batch reactor exhibiting enhanced biological phosphate removal (EBPR). The “G bacteria” were able to dominate the anaerobic‐oxic system even though acetate was readily available. When acetate was used as the sole source of organic carbon, however, PolyP bacteria were able to compete ...

Abstract Two laboratory anaerobic‐aerobic activated sludge reactors were operated to study enhanced biological phosphate removal. They differed only in organic substrate composition. Reactor F was fed with acetate, reactor G with an acetate‐glucose mixture. Both reactors were started with identical activated sludge which had an enhanced biological phosphate removal ability. During the adaptation period this ability increased several fold in reactor F but it was completely lost in reactor G. In spite ...

The nanoindentation tests of CoCrFeNiMn high entropy alloy prepared by mechanical alloying route have been performed. Pop-ins on loading curves have been characterized by their indentation load, depth and length. Locations of indents within the grains, grain sizes and their orientation were obtained by the Scanning Electron Microscope/Electron Back Scattered Diffraction analysis. The stress state under the indenter was analyzed by Finite Element Method simulations using von Mises plasticity. The ...

The DNA sugar–phosphate backbone has a substantial influence on the DNA structural dynamics. Structural biology and bioinformatics studies revealed that the DNA backbone in experimental structures samples a wide range of distinct conformational substates, known as rotameric DNA backbone conformational families. Their correct description is essential for methods used to model nucleic acids and is known to be the Achilles heel of force field computations. In this study we report the benchmark database ...

Research background: The executives of SMEs that have higher innovativeness, risk taking, proactiveness, competitive aggressiveness and autonomy dynamize the strategic posture of SMEs, thus, those firms can reach better financial and economic conditions. However, existence of many differences among countries, such as cultural values and market conditions, can cause variations in EO of these executives. Therefore, this fact can be one of the reasons why the performance and financial power of SMEs ...

To investigate the principles driving recognition between proteins and DNA, we analyzed more than thousand crystal structures of protein/DNA complexes. We classified protein and DNA conformations by structural alphabets, protein blocks [de Brevern, Etchebest and Hazout (2000) (Bayesian probabilistic approach for predicting backbone structures in terms of protein blocks. Prots. Struct. Funct. Genet., 41:271-287)] and dinucleotide conformers [Svozil, Kalina, Omelka and Schneider (2008) (DNA conformations ...

Abstract Background A growing number of crystal and NMR structures reveals a considerable structural polymorphism of DNA architecture going well beyond the usual image of a double helical molecule. DNA is highly variable with dinucleotide steps exhibiting a substantial flexibility in a sequence-dependent manner. An analysis of the conformational space of the DNA backbone and the enhancement of our understanding of the conformational dependencies in DNA are therefore important for full comprehension ...

Taxanes are widely used anticancer agents, produced from the plants of the genus Taxus (yews). One of the rare side-effects caused by taxanes is a bilateral cystoid macular oedema (CMO). The particularity of this type of CMO is that it is angiographically silent showing no leakage or pooling on fluorescein angiography (FA). To date, the mechanism of this oedema has not been clearly understood and existing theories do not explain this phenomenon very well. Our aim was to report a case of paclitaxel- ...

The recent discoveries of regulatory non-coding RNAs changed our view of RNA as a simple information transfer molecule. Understanding the architecture and function of active RNA molecules requires methods for comparing and analyzing their 3D structures. While structural alignment of short RNAs is achievable in a reasonable amount of time, large structures represent much bigger challenge. Here, we present the SETTER web server for the RNA structure pairwise comparison utilizing the SETTER (SEcondary ...

The high-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations (HF QPOs) that appear in the X-ray fluxes of low-mass X-ray binaries remain an unexplained phenomenon. Among other ideas, it has been suggested that a non-linear resonance between two oscillation modes in an accretion disc orbiting either a black hole or a neutron star plays a role in exciting the observed modulation. Several possible resonances have been discussed. A particular model assumes resonances in which the disc-oscillation modes have the eigenfrequencies ...

Abstract Human neutrophils sequester yeast cells or zymosan particles in two classes of phagocytic vacuoles: sealed and unsealed. The pH of sealed vacuoles was measured by a newly devised fluorometric procedure that used fluoresceinated zymosan particles, derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, as a pH probe. Five minutes after initiation of phagocytosis, sealed vacuoles were alkaline, exhibiting a pH of 7.80 +/- 0.19 (mean +/- SEM). Their acidity subsequently increased, so that the pH fell to 7.38 +/- 0.25 after ...
