Abstract Background Idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis (IPH) is a rare cause of alveolar hemorrhage in children and its pathophysiology remains obscure. Classically, diagnosis is based on a triad including hemoptysis, diffuse parenchymal infiltrates on chest X-rays, and iron-deficiency anemia. We present the French pediatric cohort of IPH collected through the French Reference Center for Rare Lung Diseases (RespiRare®, http://www.respirare.fr ). Methods Since 2008, a national network/web-linked RespiRare® ...

The influence of airway remodelling and inflammation in preschoolers with severe recurrent wheeze on asthma outcomes is poorly understood. To assess their association with asthma symptoms and lung function at school age.Preschoolers (38.4 months) initially investigated with bronchial biopsies were re-assessed for asthma symptoms and lung function at school age.Thirty-six of 49 preschoolers (73.5%) were assessed at 10.9 years. Twenty-six (72.2%) had persistent asthma. Submucosal eosinophil counts were ...

We underline the clinical importance of a specific eating disorder in 3 to 10 years old children, when the majority of the works about the prepubertal eating disorders focus either on the period just preceding adolescence (often between 10 and 13 years), or on the second half of the first year of the baby. Within the eating disorders described in the literature, we compare the clinical presentation of most of these 3 to 10 years old children with the food avoidance emotional disorder described during ...

ABSTRACT The aim of this work was to document molecular epidemiology of Rasamsonia argillacea species complex isolates from cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. In this work, 116 isolates belonging to this species complex and collected from 26 CF patients and one patient with chronic granulomatous disease were characterized using PCR amplification assays of repetitive DNA sequences and electrophoretic separation of amplicons (rep-PCR). Data revealed a clustering consistent with molecular species identification. ...

Pulmonary hemosiderosis is a rare and complex disease in children. A previous study from the French RespiRare® network led to two important findings: 20% of the children presented with both pulmonary hemosiderosis and Down syndrome (DS), and at least one tested autoantibody was found positive in 50%. This study investigates the relationships between pulmonary hemosiderosis and DS. Patients younger than 20 years old and followed for pulmonary hemosiderosis were retrieved from the RespiRare® database. ...

Ivacaftor is a cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) potentiator that has demonstrated clinical benefits in phase 3 trials. We report results from a real-world study (BRIO) to assess the effectiveness of ivacaftor in people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF) in France. BRIO was an observational study conducted at 35 centers in France. Both pwCF initiating ivacaftor treatment and those already taking ivacaftor were included and prospectively followed for 24 months. Abstract Introduction Interstitial lung disease in children (chILD) is a highly heterogeneous group of rare and severe respiratory disorders. The disease by itself, the burden of the treatments (oxygen therapy, corticosteroid pulses, nutritional support) and recurrent hospitalizations may impair the quality of life (QoL) of these children. The aim of the study was to compare the health‐related QoL (HR‐QoL) in chILD compared to a healthy population and to find out the predictive factors of an altered ...

Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa) and Methicillin susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) are the predominant bacteria found in the airways of people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF), significantly contributing to lung disease progression. Abstract Background Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections are closely monitored in people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF), especially severe cases. Previous studies used hospitalization rates as proxy for severity. Methods We evaluated data from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases diagnosed in French pwCF over the first pandemic year. Objective criteria were applied for defining severity (eg, respiratory failure and/or death). Data were compared to all French pwCF ...

Interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) in children represent a heterogeneous group of rare respiratory disorders that affect the lung parenchyma. After the launch of the French Reference Centre for Rare Lung Diseases (RespiRare®), we created a national network and a web-linked database to collect data on pediatric ILD. Since 2008, the database has been set up in all RespiRare® centres. After patient's parents' oral consent is obtained, physicians enter the data of children with ILD: identity, social data ...
