Any manufacturing activity creates product and energy flows whose management provides an overview of how a manufacturing system interacts with its environment. Recently, simultaneous management of these flows using discrete event simulation is increasingly being discussed in literature. However, the reliability of such projects basically depends on the method used to model energy consumption and quality of input data. Mindful of these challenges, this work reviews some existing energy related discrete- ...

Abstract. Adriatic and Ionian seas are Mediterranean sub-basins linked through the Bimodal Oscillating System mechanism responsible for decadal reversals of the Ionian basin-wide circulation. Altimetric maps showed that the last cyclonic mode started in 2011 but unexpectedly in 2012 reversed to anticyclonic. We related this "premature" inversion to the extremely strong winter in 2012, which caused the formation of very dense Adriatic waters, flooding Ionian flanks in May and inverting the bottom ...

Ectomesenchymal chondromyxoid tumor (ECMT) is a rare benign neoplasm arising in the tongue. With only 45 cases reported in the literature, there are several unique features defining this lesion. Firstly, almost all patients present with an asymptomatic slow growing mass on the anterior dorsum of the tongue. At the microscopic level, it is recognizable as a well-circumscribed unencapsulated proliferation of uniform round to fusiform cells embedded in a chondromyxoid matrix. Lastly, the immunohistochemistry ...

Abstract This article presents a new storage-retrieval method called In-Deep Class Storage, designed for Flow-Rack AS/RS. Class-based storage is a well-known method that has an extensive literature; our method is based on the fact that it is more efficient to dedicate the front layers of each bin to the class of the most popular items rather than dedicating whole bins close to the drop-off station. Clearly, this idea is not trivial to implement due to the dynamic behaviour of such racks. Thus, two ...

Olivier Cardin, Pierre Castagna,

In this paper, we present a new application of discrete–event simulation as a forecasting tool for the decision support of the production activity control of a complex manufacturing system. The specificity of such an application of simulation is the short term of the forecasts. This specificity implies that the initial state of the simulation takes into account the actual state of the system. The development on a real–size flexible manufacturing system shows the technical feasibility of the developed ...

Olivier Cardin, Pierre Castagna,

This paper deals with the use of online simulation on Holonic manufacturing systems. Concepts needed for the use of online simulation in a classical hierarchical system were already defined, the observer being the central one. The behavior's differences between both classes of systems are studied to determine the best way to adapt these concepts to this new environment. In the product resource order staff approach (PROSA) reference architecture, staff holons were chosen to welcome the simulation ...

Elicitins, holoproteins which act as inducers of hypersensitivity on tobacco, were considered as a characteristic of Phytophthora. They are also produced, along with glycosylated isoforms, by three species belonging to the related genus Pythium, Py. vexans, Py. oedochilum and Py. marsipium, while other Pythium species do not possess such proteins. Various elicitin-like sequences were determined, bringing novel features to the elicitin family, such as an histidine residue and C-terminal extensions ...

Many initiatives aim at describing the objectives and functionalities of the so-called digital twin of manufacturing systems. Considering the assets, the twin is meant to be able to both exhibit the actual and current states of the resources, and provide some estimates about the future behaviour of these resources. To target the sustainability pillar of future industrial systems, the energy monitoring and management are critical issues. Consequently, the integration of multi-physics models helping ...
