In 1490 Daniel Caietanus published Pomponius Laetus’ commentary on Virgil’s work, but the edition was printed under the name of Pomponius Sabinus. Many scholars attempted to explain why Caietanus used this pseudonym. I propose a possible solution based on the relationship between Pomponius, his pupil Marcantonius Sabellicus, and Daniel Caietanus.
