Amr A. Ibrahim, David R. S. Cumming,

A novel micromachined passive wireless pressure sensor is presented. The device consists of a tuned circuit operating at 10 GHz fabricated on to a SiO2 membrane, supported on a silicon wafer. A pressure difference across the membrane causes it to deflect so that an antenna circuit detunes. The circuit is remotely interrogated to read off the sensor data wirelessly. The chip area is 5 mm × 4 mm and the membrane area is 2 mm2 with a thickness of 4 μm. Two on-chip passive resonant circuits were investigated: ...

Ra’id S. Awadallah, Gary S. Brown,

The problem of rough surface scattering and propagation over rough terrain in a ducting environment has been receiving considerable attention in the literature. One popular method of modeling this problem is the parabolic wave equation (PWE) method. An alternative method is the boundary integral equation (BIE) method. The implementation of the BIE in inhomogeneous media (ducting environments) is not straightforward, however, since the Green's function for such a medium is not usually known. In this ...

An analytical procedure for the calculation of the inductance of planar zig-zag spiral inductors is proposed. The procedure is based on the partial inductance concept and models the inductor as a series of a number of parts. The self-inductance of each individual part, which has the shape of a parallelogram, and the mutual inductance between any two parts of the inductor are determined. The inductance of a planar zig-zag spiral inductor can thus be obtained for any width, length and angle of the saw- ...

Jun He, Bing‐Zhong Wang, Wei Shao,

A novel zigzag microstrip slow-wave structure is presented, which effectively reduces the occupied length to 34% of a normal microstrip structure. A sample power divider using the slow-wave structure is given, the whole size of the proposed divider has been reduced by 39% compared to a conventional power divider. The design is validated both by simulation and by measurement.

S. C. Loh, Johannes Jacobsen,

In this paper, a type of highly directional, surface-wave antenna is described. This consists of a conventional endfire structure which is terminated by a large surface-wave plane reflector and is thus operated under the backfire condition. Two commonly used endfire structures, namely helical and zigzag, are tested. The improvement is achieved in the half-power beam width

Since no practical method is available for synthesizing radar waveforms, a sizable effort has been directed into studies of the matched-filter response, or ambiguity function, of many waveforms. In this paper, we investigate the class of FM signals whose instantaneous frequency varies in a zigzag pattern. The waveforms thus consist of linear FM segments and are relatively easy to generate and process. The paper discusses the relation between the characteristics of the waveform and the features of ...

Abstract Based on experimental data, we have reported a method to scale the cumulative time, T F,T ( A ), a given attenuation, A (dB), is exceeded in a MEO satellite system in fixed terminals, to the time, T M,T ( A ), A is exceeded in mobile terminals. Zigzag routes and ring roads simulated city patterns; straight routes simulated freeways. In all cases, T M,T ( A ) can be expressed as T M,T ( A )= ξ T F,T ( A ) with a probability scaling factor ξ independent of A . Although the satellite systems have been simulated at ...
