The hydrothermal carbonization process is a suitable process for the conversion of potentially harmful lignocellulosic waste into hydrochars. Defective coffee beans were the precursor raw material for hydrochar synthesis. Reactions were performed in a high-pressure reactor at 150, 200, and 250 °C, in autogenous pressure, for 40 min. Hydrochars were recovered by filtration and characterized by energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectrophotometry, attenuated total reflection ...

Stroke is a leading cause of death and neurological disability worldwide and striatal ischemic stroke is frequent in humans due to obstruction of middle cerebral artery. Several pathological events underlie damage progression and a comprehensive description of the pathological features following experimental stroke in both acute and chronic survival times is a necessary step for further functional studies. Here, we explored the patterns of microglial activation, astrocytosis, oligodendrocyte damage, ...

The synthetic pyrethroids and their associations have been widely used for controlling Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus. The frequent use of acaricides has been inducing the development of resistance in the tick populations. The aim of this study was to assess the susceptibility of R. (B.) microplus populations to pyrethroids and their associations in the region of Garanhuns, Pernambuco, Brazil. In addition, the level of information among farm owners regarding tick control measures was investigated. ...

Abstract Purpose: Seizure-related homolog protein 6 (SEZ6) is a novel target expressed in small cell lung cancer (SCLC). ABBV-011, a SEZ6-targeted antibody conjugated to calicheamicin, was evaluated in a phase I study (NCT03639194) in patients with relapsed/refractory SCLC. We report initial outcomes of ABBV-011 monotherapy. Patients and Methods: ABBV-011 was administered intravenously once every 3 weeks during dose escalation (0.3–2 mg/kg) and expansion. Patients with SEZ6-positive tumors (≥25% of tumor ...

We report an approach for cancer phenotyping based on targeted sequencing of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) for small cell lung cancer (SCLC). In SCLC, differential activation of transcription factors (TFs), such as ASCL1, NEUROD1, POU2F3, and REST defines molecular subtypes. We designed a targeted capture panel that identifies chromatin organization signatures at 1535 TF binding sites and 13,240 gene transcription start sites and detects exonic mutations in 842 genes. Sequencing of cfDNA from SCLC patient- ...

The nonlinear dynamics of a FitzHugh–Nagumo (FHN) neuron driven by an oscillating current and perturbed by a Gaussian noise signal with different intensities D is investigated. In the noiseless case, stable periodic structures [Arnold tongues (ATS), cuspidal and shrimp-shaped] are identified in the parameter space. The periods of the ATSs obey specific generating and recurrence rules and are organized according to linear Diophantine equations responsible for bifurcation cascades. While for small values ...

Established vineyard soils may have high copper (Cu) contents due to the ongoing foliar applications of copper-based fungicides. In viticulture, the replacement of old vineyards with new vines is common practice, however, limited by Cu excess in soil and its toxicity to young grapevines. Asthma allergic disease is caused by airway chronic inflammation. Some intracellular signaling pathways, such as MAPK and STAT3-SOCS3, are involved in the control of airway inflammation in asthma. The flavonoid sakuranetin demonstrated an anti-inflammatory effect in different asthma models. Carbohydrates availability, which are directly related to photosynthesis (AN), and turgor are the main determinants of fruit growth. Since stomatal conductance (gs) is the main limiting factor of AN in fruit trees in most environments, and is strongly regulated by turgor, its measurement is pivotal to understanding fruit growth dynamics. Despite its relevance, the use of gs to estimate AN faces the major limitation of being difficult to measure in an automated and continuous manner. Based on these ...
