Acceleration of wound healing can be achieved with the use of wound dressings. Through the electrospinning technique, a polymeric scaffold composed of two layers was processed: a gelatin and polyvinylpyrrolidone layer with gentamicin, and a second layer of cellulose acetate. The conditions for the electrospinning process were standardized for voltage parameters, feed flow and the distance from the injector to the collector. Once the values of the main variables for the electrospinning were optimized, ...

In this paper, we explored the application of the fractional calculus to digital watermarking. In order to reach this goal, we chose a set of watermarking systems, and then, we altered the watermark detection step of each system. The novelty of our proposal is that we deviated from the trend of proposing new embedding domains computed by using fractional calculus principles. Instead, we proposed to reformulate the detection equation set. Then, this paper contributes to a new equation set for detecting ...

This paper presents an alternative representation of a system of differential equations qualitatively showing the behavior of the biological rhythm of a crayfish during their transition from juvenile to adult stages. The model focuses on the interaction of four cellular oscillators coupled by diffusion of a hormone, a parameter [Formula: see text] is used to simulate the quality of communication among the oscillators, in biological terms, it measures developmental maturity of the crayfish. Since ...

The probabilistic seismic hazard assessment (PSHA) is a fundamental step to generate information that can contribute to reduce the seismic risk in cities. This reduction is essential to increase the resilience of the cities. Nowadays, there are different types of software that can be used to perform PSHA. In the present document a recent version of the CRISIS software to perform PSHA is described. CRISIS2015 is a versatile tool to perform PSHA. The first version of CRISIS was done more than fifteen ...

In this article, we obtain the viscous damping coefficient β theoretically and experimentally in the spring–mass–viscodamper system. The calculation is performed to obtain the quasi-period τ. The influence of the viscosity of the fluid and the damping coefficient is analyzed using three fluids, water, edible oil, and gasoline engine oil SAE 10W-40. These processes exhibit temporal fractality and non-local behaviors. Our general non-local damping model incorporates fractional derivatives of Caputo ...

We present an alternative representation of integer and fractional electrical elements in the Laplace domain for modeling electrochemical systems represented by equivalent electrical circuits. The fractional derivatives considered are of Caputo and Caputo-Fabrizio type. This representation includes distributed elements of the Cole model type. In addition to maintaining consistency in adjusted electrical parameters, a detailed methodology is proposed to build the equivalent circuits. Illustrative ...

In this paper, the fractional equations of the mass-spring-damper system with Caputo and Caputo–Fabrizio derivatives are presented. The physical units of the system are preserved by introducing an auxiliary parameter σ. The input of the resulting equations is a constant and periodic source; for the Caputo case, we obtain the analytical solution, and the resulting equations are given in terms of the Mittag–Leffler function; for the Caputo–Fabrizio approach, the numerical solutions are obtained by ...

In the present work, a study and description of the wear mechanisms implied in disk and shoe pads (bodies) was presented. These were subjected to real service, roughly 8 months, in a city as Poza Rica in Mexico that is extremely warm (high temperatures between 40 °C and 50 °C), which lead to cause a more rapid wear process. The surface characteristics and the differences in the wear modes of the brake pads were shown. These observations allowed concluding that high sliding and abrasion wear deformed ...

In this paper, a system of fractional differential equations that model the synchronized bioluminescence behavior of a set of fireflies put on two spatial arrangements is presented; the alternative representation of these equations contains fractional operators of Liouville–Caputo type. The objective of the model is to qualitatively recover synchronization and show that it is persistent. It is shown that the effort made by each firefly glow changes with respect to the number of male competitors ...

Abstract Nephron sparing surgery (NSS) is increasingly utilized to treat patients with bilateral Wilms tumor. We present a case of NSS planning using a three‐dimensional computerized and printed model of both kidneys with anatomical structures of interest (parenchyma, renal pelvis, major calyx, renal artery, renal vein, and tumor). This model allowed a better understanding of the anatomic relation between the tumor and the normal kidney on each side, improving the surgical planning and the preoperative ...

Semiconductor nano-devices have been scaled to the level that transport can be dominated by a single dopant atom. In the strong coupling case a Kondo effect is observed when one electron is bound to the atom. Here, we report on the spin as well as orbital Kondo ground state. We experimentally as well than theoretically show how we can tune a symmetry transition from a SU(4) ground state, a many body state that forms a spin as well as orbital singlet by virtual exchange with the leads, to a pure ...

In this paper, we present an analysis and modeling of the interaction of electromagnetic fields with metallic nanostructures using computational tools that allow us to study the phenomena that are produced as an electromagnetic field interacts with the nanostructure. The analysis of dielectric systems including metals can be very complicated because of the metal parameters. For this reason, we propose to integrate the dielectric function of the Lorentz-Drude model with the finite difference time- ...

The lesions were classified into five groups: pyogenic granuloma, calcifying fibroblastic granuloma, fibrous hyperplasia, peripheral giant cell granuloma and denture hyperplasia. The study indicates that there are some differences in age and sex distribution as well as in location between the different histological groups. Pyogenic granuloma was found to be the most common lesion on ...

Analytical solutions are obtained in terms of Mittag-Leffler functions. In the range (1; 2) the concentration exhibits the superdiffusion phenomena and when the order of the derivative is equal to 2 ballistic diffusion can be observed, these behaviors occur in many physical systems such as semiconductors, quantum optics, ...

Dietary fiber intake is one of the most influential and efficacious strategies for modulating the gut microbiota. Said fiber can be digested by the microbiota itself, producing numerous metabolites, which include the short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). SCFAs have local and systemic functions that impact the composition and function of the gut microbiota, and consequently, human health. The aim of the present narrative review was to provide a document that serves as a frame of reference for a clear understanding ...
