Background: Chlorhexidine skin cleansing might substantially reduce neonatal infection and mortality in developing countries. Few data exist on the impact of chlorhexidine cleansing on skin colonization of infants during the first day of life or on the absorption potential of chlorhexidine during newborn skin cleansing. Methods: Hospital-born newborns in Kathmandu, Nepal were randomly allocated to full-body skin cleansing with 0.25%, 0.50%, or 1.00% chlorhexidine solution. Skin swabs were collected ...

The delivery of diltiazem hydrochloride in therapeutical doses has attracted an immense research interest. However, its slower penetration through the transdermal route has stipulated to develop a competent transdermal membrane. Therefore, a nanocomposite based patch was formulated by exploring co-polymer and jute derived nano-cellulose. Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) was grafted into guar gum (GG-g-PNIPAAm) with different feeding ratios. The co-polymer formation was authenticated by FTIR and 13C NMR ...

Background: Waste water contains microorganisms which are continuously shed in the feces. These microorganisms especially bacteria might acquire antibiotic resistance and pose a significant threat to human health. Therefore, this work aims at isolating bacteriophage capable of infecting the isolated bacteria. Methodology: For this purpose, the grab sampling was performed at the Guheswori sewage treatment plant from the inlet in the primary treatment plant and from the outlet of the secondary treatment ...

Climate prediction models suggest that agricultural productivity will be significantly affected in the future. The expected rise in average global temperature due to the higher release of greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere and increased depletion of water resources with enhanced climate variability will be a serious threat to world food security. Moreover, there is an increase in the frequency and severity of long-lasting drought events over 1/3rd of the global landmass and five times increase ...

Nanostructured conducting polymer provides higher surface area for analyte vapor sensing. This investigation aims to synthesize rod-like polypyrrole (PPY) silver nanocomposite tailored by sodium cholate surfactant as soft template for sensing of acetone vapor. During oxidative polymerization of pyrrole by ferric chloride Ag nanoparticle gets deposited on PPY by simultaneous reduction of silver nitrate. The crystal structure, surface morphology and nature of interfacial interactions between the two ...

In recent times, the Internet of Things (IoT) applications, including smart transportation, smart healthcare, smart grid, smart city, etc. generate a large volume of real-time data for decision making. In the past decades, real-time sensory data have been offloaded to centralized cloud servers for data analysis through a reliable communication channel. However, due to the long communication distance between end-users and centralized cloud servers, the chances of increasing network congestion, data ...

The low-level sensing of ethanol has gained enormous importance due to its application in human health monitoring, road safety, fermentation and food industries. In this investigation, we report the synthesis of ribbonlike nanostructures of polypyrrole (PPY), a conducting polymer, using sodium cholate micelles as a soft template. The PPY nanoribbons were found to exhibit good sensor response along with high degree of selectivity to ethanol vapour as opposed to several common volatile organic compounds ( ...

We have designed and fabricated an ex situ optical cantilever beam magnetometer to measure the magnetization and the magnetostriction of ferromagnetic materials. We discuss the working principle of a cantilever beam magnetometer and derive the theory of the cantilever bending due to magnetic torque acting on the sample attached to the cantilever substrate. We also present the results for bulk iron obtained using the cantilever beam magnetometer.

Introduction: The near miss concept and the criterion-based clinical audit are proposed as useful approaches for obtaining such information in newborn health care. There is currently no Standard definition and criteria for neonatal near miss especially for the community level intervention. Thus, lifesaving interventions could be an entry point to initiate the development of the neonatal near-miss definition. Mother and Infants Research Activities and Health Right International (HRI) developed a new ...

Herniation of bladder mucosa through the bladder wall muscle layer is known as bladder diverticulum. The incidence of bladder diverticulum is 1.7. About 0.8 to 10% of the urinary bladder diverticulum develops carcinoma. Transitional cell carcinoma is the most common. Painless hematuria is the most common clinical presentation. Different imaging modalities along with cystoscopy are the key to accurate diagnosis and staging. High grade multifocal urothelial carcinoma in the bladder diverticulum is ...

Films based on methylcellulose (MC) and pectin (PEC) of different ratios were prepared. MC/PEC (90:10) (MP10) gave the best results in terms of mechanical properties. Sodium montmorillonite (MMT) (1, 3 and 5 wt%) was incorporated in the MP10 matrix. The resulting films were characterized by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy, and it was found that nanocomposites were intercalated in nature. Mechanical studies established that addition of 3 wt% MMT gave best results in terms of mechanical ...
