Parrotfishes and surgeonfishes perform important functional roles in the dynamics of coral reef systems. This is a consequence of their varied feeding behaviors ranging from targeted consumption of living plant material (primarily surgeonfishes) to feeding on detrital aggregates that are either scraped from the reef surface or excavated from the deeper reef substratum (primarily parrotfishes). Increased fishing pressure and widespread habitat destruction have led to population declines for several ...

Two distinct approaches were used to characterise spray-drift during the application of atrazine and alachlor to a maize crop. The first consisted in determining the quantities which did not reach their target. A first experiment was carried in 2001 to improve the sampling method. A second experiment in 2002 showed that losses represented 46 and 38% for atrazine and alachlor, respectively. The second approach was to follow the spatiotemporal evolution of the cloud formed during application. The ...

A Prospective Registry from a Single Center. New forms of ventricular pacing are increasingly studied as an option in the management of patients with heart failure. Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the most frequent cause of heart failure, and patients with complete left or right bundle branch block (LBBB and RBBB) and a reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) are the best candidates for this new therapy. However, the prevalence of this clinical presentation is uncertain. During a 1‐year ...

The main objective of this article is to present a new model that can be used to estimate the exposure of a population to lead contamination from the drinking water supply. The model is not to designed predict the particular situation in any one individual household, but to provide an estimate of the average daily quantity of lead ingested by a consumer population from water quality and the characteristics of the household plumbing system. Data were gathered from field studies carried out over a ...

\textit{In situ} high-pressure Brillouin light scattering experiments along loading-unloading paths are used to investigate the compressibility of vitreous silica. An accurate equation of state is obtained below \SI{9}{GPa} using sound velocities corrected for dispersion. Conversely, huge inelastic effects are observed in the range \SIrange{10}{60}{GPa}, unveiling the reversible transformation from the fourfold-coordinated structure to the sixfold one. We find that the associated density changes fully ...

Four different phases have been identified in the solid thiourea-cyclohexane inclusion compound in the course of a study of the dependence of the nitrogen pure quadrupole resonance spectrum on temperature. The corresponding transitions can be related to molecular motions. Results of proton magnetic resonance, X-ray diffraction, and micro-differential thermal analysis experiments are presented and an interpretation of the transitions is proposed.

Several experimental results and discussions have previously been reported concerning the thiourea-cyclohexane inclusion compound (TCIC). They were obtained using nitrogen-14 NQR, proton wide-line NMR, relaxation time measurements, differential thermal analysis, and x ray diffraction methods. In the present paper new results of wide-line proton NMR on partially deuterated samples (thiourea-d4-cyclohexane) and a detailed interpretation of x-ray diffraction patterns are presented; the discussion leads ...
