In recent years, both scientific and judicial sources have highlighted the need for more knowledge about minutiae variability, in order to improve their statistical application to fingerprint identification. In line with this trend toward improving our knowledge of this subject, the aim of the present study was to calculate the frequency with which 20 types of minutiae appeared in 2780 fingerprint impressions obtained from 278 individuals from two Argentinian population samples (100 individuals from ...

Pacing in vasovagal syncope remains controversial. The authors evaluated dual-chamber pacing with closed loop stimulation (DDD-CLS) in patients with cardioinhibitory vasovagal syncope. This randomized, double-blind, controlled study included Canadian and Spanish patients age ≥40 years, with high burden syncope (≥5 episodes, ≥2 episodes in the past year), and a cardioinhibitory head-up tilt test (bradycardia 3 s). Patients were randomized to either DDD-CLS pacing for 12 months followed by sham DDI mode pacing ...

Abstract Background Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) IVA or Morquio A syndrome is a progressive and disabling disease characterized by a deficiency of the enzyme N -acetylgalactosamine-6-sulphate sulphatase. Its clinical presentation is very heterogeneous and poorly understood in adults. The aim of this study was to describe the clinical manifestations of MPS IVA in adult patients in Spain and to assess their health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are a common type of soft tissue sarcoma that originates from the interstitial cells of Cajal in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. These tumors usually affect people above 50 years of age and can be difficult to diagnose, as symptoms can be vague and nonspecific, with some patients remaining asymptomatic. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial because GISTs can be aggressive and may metastasize. We present a case of a 74-year-old man who presented to our hospital ...

Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other neurodegenerative dementias have a progressive course, impairing cognition, functional capacity, and behavior. Most studies have focused on AD. Severe dementia is associated with increased age, higher morbidity-mortality, and rising costs of care. It is the most heterogeneous phase in the process, with different abilities and ...
