Background The clinical implementation of pharmacogenomics (PGx) could be one of the first milestones towards realizing personalized medicine in routine care. However, its widespread adoption requires the availability of suitable clinical decision support (CDS) systems, which is often impeded by the fragmentation or absence of adequate health IT infrastructures. We report results of CDS implementation in the large-scale European research project Ubiquitous Pharmacogenomics (U-PGx), in which PGx CDS ...

Follicular maturity and atresia have been defined previously, both hormonally and microscopically, in normal ovulatory women. Ovarian hyperstimulation with clomiphene citrate and human menopausal gonadotropins in normal women is carried out for the purpose of aspirating oocytes from several large follicles for in vitro fertilization. Alterations in follicular fluid (FF) hormone levels occur with hyperstimulation regimens, and some of these large follicles (>18 mm) appear morphologically atretic. We ...

Follicular fluid was obtained from anovulatory patients (n = 12), stimulated with human menopausal gonadotropin, clomiphene, and human chorionic gonadotropin to evaluate the relative responses of inhibin, follicle regulatory protein, and steroid levels in follicles from ovaries requiring exogenous stimulation for follicular development. Follicular fluid concentrations of estradiol, progesterone, androstenedione, testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, and 3 alpha-androstenediol were determined by radioimmunoassay. ...

Recently, we reported the identification of a heat- and trypsin-labile substance recovered directly from the venous drainage of the human preovulatory ovary and pooled follicular fluid which suppressed follicular response to gonadotropins. Since many of the steroidal components of follicular fluid are derived from granulosa cells, we questioned whether granulosa cells secrete a substance that inhibits follicular response to gonadotropins. Follicular fluid was aspirated from regularly menstruating ...
