Abstract An expeditious preparation of the 6‐ exo ‐hydroxybicyclo[2.2.2]octan‐2‐one ethylene dithioacetal 2b , a key intermediate in the synthesis of (+)‐13‐stemarene ( 4 ) and (+)‐18‐deoxystemarin ( 5 ) is described. Compound 2b was obtained as the major product by equilibrating the endo rich mixture of 6‐hydroxybicyclo[2.2.2]octan‐2‐one ethylene dithioacetals 2 with TsOH in benzene at reflux, easily available from the corresponding hydroxy ketones 9 . Simultaneous measurements of the t¯t, W+W−, and Z/γ∗→ττ production cross-sections using an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb−1 of pp collisions at √s=7 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC are presented. Measurements of charged-particle fragmentation functions of jets produced in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions can provide insight into the modification of parton showers in the hot, dense medium created in the collisions. ATLAS has measured jets in $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.76$ TeV Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC using a data set recorded in 2011 with an integrated luminosity of 0.14 nb$^{-1}$. The ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider is used to search for high-mass resonances decaying to dielectron or dimuon final states. Results are presented from an analysis of proton-proton (pp) collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb-1 in the dielectron channel and 20.5 fb-1 in the dimuon channel. A narrow resonance with Standard Model Z couplings to fermions is excluded at 95% confidence level for masses less than 2.79 TeV in the dielectron ...
