Due to economic and environmental considerations, there exists a need for effective, efficient, and nondestructive methods for locating buried agricultural drainage pipes. Previous research indicates that thermal infrared (TIR) imagery obtained with an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has potential for mapping agricultural subsurface drainage systems, thereby warranting further investigation to determine the best time of day to conduct these UAV TIR surveys. Accordingly, a set of sunrise to sunset UAV ...

Low molecular mass guanine nucleotide-binding proteins [small guanosine 5'-triphosphate (GTP)-binding proteins] and phosphoproteins of the pancreatic acinar cell were compared by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. [35S]GTP alpha S blotting analysis of the total cell protein revealed 20 GTP-binding proteins ranging in molecular mass from 20 to 28 kDa and pI of 4.8-6.4. Analysis of 32P-labeled total cell protein revealed over 300 phosphoproteins. The subcellular distribution of the small GTP-binding ...

SEQSEE (SEQuence SEEker) is a multi-purpose, menu-driven suite of programs designed to provide a fully integrated, state-of-the-art package for the analysis and display of protein sequences and protein databases. It is currently configured to run on most UNIX-based machines including Sun, SGI and NeXT workstations with conversion to other architectures (e.g. Vox or Cray) being a relatively simple task. SEQSEE is capable of performing nearly all of the analytical and comparative tasks found in most ...

The Val158Met polymorphism of the catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) gene may be related to individual differences in cognition, likely via modulation of prefrontal dopamine catabolism. However, the available studies have yielded mixed results, possibly in part because they do not consistently account for other genes that affect cognition. We hypothesized that COMT Met allele homozygosity, which is associated with higher levels of prefrontal dopamine, would predict better executive function as measured ...

White matter changes measured using diffusion tensor imaging have been reported in Alzheimer's disease and amnestic mild cognitive impairment, but changes in earlier pre-mild cognitive impairment stages have not been fully investigated. In a cross-sectional analysis, older adults with mild cognitive impairment (n = 28), older adults with cognitive complaints but without psychometric impairment (n = 29) and healthy controls (n = 35) were compared. Measures included whole-brain diffusion tensor imaging, T1- ...

Four linear and four cyclic analogs of gramicidin S (GS) in which D-Phe was replaced with either D-His, D-Ser, D-Tyr or D-Asn have been prepared by solid-phase peptide synthesis and characterized with respect to antibacterial, antifungal and hemolytic activity. Unlike previous reports, GS and a number of cyclic analogs were found to be active against gram-positive as well as gram-negative bacteria. GS showed MICs ranging from 3 to 12.5 micrograms/mL for gram-negative bacteria, compared to MICs of ...

The G1 restriction point is critical for regulating the cell cycle and is controlled by the Rb pathway (CDK4/6-cyclin D1-Rb-p16/ink4a). This pathway is important because of its inactivation in a majority of human tumors. Transition through the restriction point requires phosphorylation of retinoblastoma protein (Rb) by CDK4/6, which are highly validated cancer drug targets. We present the identification and characterization of a potent CDK4/6 inhibitor, LY2835219. LY2835219 inhibits CDK4 and CDK6 ...

The widespread applications of various 'omics' technologies in biomedical research together with the emergence of public data repositories have resulted in a plethora of data sets for almost any given physiological state or disease condition. Properly combining or integrating these data sets with similar basic hypotheses can help reduce study bias, increase statistical power and improve overall biological understanding. However, the difficulties in data management and the complexities of analytical ...

The G1 restriction point is a primary mechanism controlling cell cycle progression and is controlled by the CDK4/6 pathway (CDK4/6-cyclin D1-Rb-CDKN2). The importance of this pathway is highlighted by inactivation of restriction point control in a majority of human tumors. Transition through the restriction point requires ...
