A expansão ocorrida no período ...

The IL23/Th17 axis plays an important role in the pathogenesis of cell-mediated tissue damage caused either by autoimmunity or immune responses against bacterial infection. Single nucleotide polymorphisms in the IL17A, IL17F and IL23R genes have been associated with several inflammatory diseases. However, these polymorphisms have not yet been studied in periodontitis. The aim of present study was to evaluate the expression of IL17A and occurrence of the IL17A (rs2275913), IL17F (rs763780) and IL23R ( ...

This study was designed to determine whether the functional IL-10 gene polymorphism -1082G/A is associated with the development of cardiomyopathy in individuals infected with Trypanosoma cruzi and whether interleukin (IL)-10 expression can be correlated with patients' cardiac function. Our results demonstrated that the polymorphic allele, which correlates with lower expression of IL-10, was associated with the development of Chagas disease cardiomyopathy. Accordingly, correlative analysis showed that ...

Abstract Patterns of bat distribution in Cerrado can be influenced by habitat heterogeneity and seasonal variation. We described the bat fauna in Cerrado landscape during an environment-monitoring program in Tocantins State, Northern Brazil. Additionally, we tested the influence of habitat heterogeneity and seasonality on the abundance and species richness of Phyllostomidae in this region by Generalized Linear Mixed Models. In 2010, we sampled 40 nights (rainy and dry seasons) in four vegetation ...

Application of composted tannery sludge (CTS) could promote a shift in the structure of soil microbial communities. Although the effect of CTS on bacterial community has been studied, it is unclear how the composition and diversity of archaeal community respond to CTS amendment and which environmental factors drive the community over time. Here, we hypothesize that the Archaea structure and composition respond to CTS amendment over the time. CTS had been previously applied annually along 6 years ...

The rhizosphere is the soil zone influenced by the roots and its characteristics vary according to plant species and their stage of development. These different characteristics can influence the bacterial community inhabiting the rhizosphere niche that, in turn, influences plant growth and health. Thus, during maize growth, soils were collected ...

Thirteen reference genes were investigated to determine their stability to be used as a housekeeping in gene expression studies in skeletal muscle of chickens. Five different algorithms were used for ranking of reference genes and results suggested that individual rankings of the genes differed among them. The stability of the expression of reference genes were validated using samples obtained from the Pectoralis major muscle in chicken. Samples were obtained from chickens in different development ...

Prolactin (PRL) is known to suppress LH secretion. Kisspeptin neurons regulate LH secretion and express PRL receptors. We investigated whether PRL acts on kisspeptin neurons to suppress LH secretion in lactating (Lac) and virgin rats. Lac rats displayed high PRL secretion and reduced plasma LH and kisspeptin immunoreactivity in the arcuate nucleus (ARC). Bromocriptine-induced PRL blockade significantly increased ARC kisspeptin and plasma LH levels in Lac rats but did not restore them to the levels ...
