Neurophysiologic monitoring during deep brain stimulation (DBS) interventions in the globus pallidus internum (Gpi) for the treatment of Parkinson's disease or primary dystonia is generally based upon microelectrode recordings (MER); moreover, MER request sophisticated technology and high level trained personnel for a reliable monitoring. Recordings of cortical visual evoked potentials (CVEPs) obtained after stimulation of the optic tract may be a potential option to MER; since optic tract lies just ...

HDL is endowed with several metabolic, vascular, and immunoinflammatory protective functions. Among them, a key property is to promote reverse cholesterol transport from cells back to the liver. The aim of this study was to estimate the association of scavenger receptor class B type I (SR-BI)- and ATP binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1)-mediated cholesterol efflux (the two major routes for cholesterol efflux to HDL) with the presence, extent, and severity of coronary artery disease (CAD), vascular ...

In 2013, 42 million children under the age of 5 years were overweight or obese. In the context of obesity, we recently showed that (1) peripheral lymphocytes of obese children/adolescents had an 8-fold increase in double strand breaks (DSBs), expressed as g-H2AX foci, than normal weight adolescents, and (2) 30% of the damage was retained into chromosome mutations. Thus, we investigated DSBs repair efficiency in a group of obese adolescents assessing the kinetic of H2AX phosphorylation in mitomycin ...

Background and aims Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a genetic disorder characterized by high levels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) predisposing to premature cardiovascular disease. Its prevalence varies and has been estimated around 1 in 200–500. The Heredity survey evaluated the prevalence of potential FH and the therapeutic approaches among patients with established coronary artery disease (CAD) or peripheral artery disease (PAD) in which it is less well documented. Methods Data ...

Plastic pollution is becoming an emerging environmental issue due to inappropriate disposal at the end of the materials life cycle. When plastics are released, they undergo physical and chemical corrosion, leading to the formation of small particles, commonly referred to as microplastics. In this study, a microbial community derived from the leachate of a bioreactor containing a mixture of soil and plastic collected during a landfill mining process underwent an enrichment protocol in order to select ...

Abstract: The excretion rate of amitriptyline N - oxide was measured in healthy human subjects after the administration of a single oral dose of amitriptyline. The total amount of this metabolite excreted accounted for about 1% of the dose. It appears in the urine soon after administration of the parent compound but has practically disappeared by the 9th hr after treatment. The role of this metabolite in amitriptyline degradation in humans is discussed.

The influence of a chronic amitryptiline pretreatment on the transport of the same drug through the cell membrane has been studied in rabbit isolated hepatocytes, comparing the amount of amitryptiline metabolized by intact hepatocytes with that by disrupted ones. The results show that the amitryptiline metabolism in intact hepatocytes from chronically pretreated rabbits is significantly lower than that in the disrupted ones at all incubation times. By contrast this difference is not present between ...

After double-strand break induction, formation of γ-H2AX foci due to phosphorylation at Ser-139 of histone H2AX represents an early event of the DNA damage response (DDR). γ-H2AX foci are then rapidly dephosphorylated as signal for the subsequent recruitment of effector proteins. The induction and disappearance of the foci can be, therefore, used to monitor the functioning of the DDR machinery in a cell population exposed to genotoxic stress. Here, we investigated the time-course of γ-H2AX in unstimulated ...

Abstract Abstract 1124 Poster Board I-146 Background Dasatinib (BMS-354825) is a multi-targeted kinase inhibitor of BCR-ABL and SRC with significant activity in patients with CML resistant or intolerant to front-line Imatinib (IM). However, the information so far available are to great extent limited to controlled clinical trials, which usually recruited patients with acceptable performance status, and no major organ dysfunction.
