Long-term benefits of initiating stroke prophylaxis in the emergency department (ED) are unknown. We analyzed the long-term safety and benefits of ED prescription of anticoagulation in atrial fibrillation patients.Prospective, multicenter, observational cohort of consecutive atrial fibrillation patients was performed in 62 Spanish EDs. Clinical variables and thromboprophylaxis prescribed at discharge were collected at inclusion. Follow-up at 1 year post-discharge included data about thromboprophylaxis ...

Interest in climatic change has never been greater and it is inevitable that the search for periodicities in the climatic record should be a popular means of attempting to unravel at least some of the complexities of the atmospheric system. This paper reviews aspects of the methodologies of spectral analysis and takes the example of the Barcelona precipitation series (1850–1991) to illustrate how both spectral analysis and other statistical analyses can provide information on climatic evolution as ...

Ab initio CCSD and CCSD(T) calculations with the 6-311+G(2d,2p) and the 6-311++G(3df,3pd) basis sets were carried out to characterize the vinyl cyanide (C3H3N) dissociation channels leading to hydrogen cyanide (HCN) and its isomer hydrogen isocyanide (HNC). Our computations predict three elimination channels giving rise to HCN and another four channels leading to HNC formation. The relative HCN/HNC branching ratios as a function of internal energy of vinyl cyanide were computed using RRKM theory and ...

The collision-induced dissociation (CID) of the [Li(uracil)]+ complex with Xe is studied by means of quasi-classical trajectory calculations. The potential energy surface is obtained "on the fly" from AM1 semiempirical calculations, supplemented with two-body analytical potentials to model the intermolecular interactions. The simulations show that Li+ production is the primary channel, in agreement with a previous experimental study [M. T. Rodgers and P. B. Armentrout, J. Am. Chem. Soc., 2000, 122, ...

We have developed a software package based on a genetic algorithm that fits an analytic function to a given set of data points. The code, called GAFit, was also interfaced with the CHARMM and MOPAC programs in order to facilitate force field parameterizations and fittings of specific reaction parameters (SRP) for semiempirical Hamiltonians. The present tool may be applied to a wide range of fitting problems, though it has been especially designed to significantly reduce the hard work involved in ...

A new software, called tsscds2018, has been developed to discover reaction mechanisms and solve the kinetics in a fully automated fashion. The program employs algorithms based on Graph Theory to find transition state (TS) geometries from accelerated semiempirical dynamics simulations carried out with MOPAC2016. Then, the TSs are connected to the corresponding minima and the reaction network is obtained. Kinetic data like populations vs time or the abundancies of each product can also be obtained ...

This paper examines the effect of state ownership on the effective tax rates of Spanish companies. Using information regarding 3169 companies during the period of 2008–2014, we show that there are significant differences between the tax burdens of non-state-owned enterprises (NSOEs) and state-owned enterprises (SOEs), with the effective tax rates of private ownership companies being higher than those of state-owned firms. Company features, such as size, leverage, research and development investment, ...

This methodology allows us to deal with nonlinearities detected in the data, which is the principal contribution to the previous literature. Bisphthalocyaninato terbium complexes show a long magnetization relaxation time at relatively high temperatures---which makes them very interesting as magnets at single-molecule level. Their technological exploitation, however, requires the addressing of the individual molecules, therefore the deposition of single-molecule magnets on surfaces is a topic of great interest as the interaction with the substrate can play a crucial role in the definition of the molecule properties. In this work we investigate ...

We have studied the production of phenylpyruvic acid by mild stereospecific oxidation of d-phenylalanine (from d/l racemic mixtures) catalyzed by d-amino acid oxidase (DAAO) from Trigonopsis variabilis. The performance of this reaction requires the continuous bubbling of oxygen that inactivated soluble DAAO. The immobilization of the enzyme inside porous supports avoids the interaction of the enzyme with the hydrophobic oxygen/water interfaces; therefore, this inactivation cause is fully prevented. ...

Three different approaches are proposed to increase the resistance of enzymes against hydrogen peroxide. (a) Multipoint covalent immobilization. Through this technique, enzyme rigidity would be greatly increased and hence, any conformational change on the enzyme structure involved before or after oxidation with hydrogen peroxide becomes greatly prevented. Dihydrobenzo[a]fluorene derivatives have been prepared by a formal intramolecular [3 + 3] cycloaddition of o-alkynylstyrenes bearing a secondary alkyl group at the β-position of the styrene moiety. The process, catalyzed by a cationic gold(I) complex, involves a 1,2-hydride migration as the key step. 6,11-Dihydro-5H-benzo[a]fluorenes could be obtained from the initially generated 6,6a-dihydro-5H-benzo[a]fluorenes by subsequent heating of the reaction mixture under gold(I) or Brønsted acid catalysis ...

A general and efficient synthesis of 4,9-dihydro-1H-carbazoles from 3-allenylmethylindoles is reported. The process, catalyzed by a cationic gold(I) complex, involves a formal C2-H bond activation of the indole unit by reaction with the allene. The nature of the substituents at the allylic and terminal positions of the allene moiety has a crucial effect on the regioselectivity of the cyclization, which is also influenced by the catalyst and the solvent employed. Moreover, some evidence of the contribution ...

Abstract An asymmetric synthesis of elusive chiral cyclopentadienes has been developed by gold(I)‐catalyzed alkoxycyclization of 1,3‐dien‐5‐ynes. The application of these substrates in completely diastereoselective Diels–Alder cycloaddition reactions, which can be carried out in one pot from achiral 1,3‐dien‐5‐ynes, allows the preparation of highly functionalized products bearing five stereogenic centers with high enantiomeric excesses.
