The purpose of this study was to examine the amount of attention devoted to data-based decision-making in Curriculum-Based Measurement (CBM) professional development materials. Sixty-nine CBM instructional sources were reviewed, including 45 presentations, 22 manuals, and two books. The content of the presentations and manuals/books was coded into one of four categories: (a) general CBM information, (b) conducting CBM, (c) data-based decision-making, and (d) other. Results revealed that only a small ...

The authors examined three instructional approaches for improving teachers’ curriculum-based measurement (CBM) graph comprehension, each differing in the extent to which reading the data, interpreting the data, and linking the data to instruction were emphasized. Participants were 164 elementary school teachers who were randomly assigned to one of three CBM instructional approaches or a control condition. Instruction was delivered via videos. Prior to and after receiving instruction, teachers completed ...

Teachers have difficulty using data from Curriculum‐based Measurement (CBM) progress graphs of students with learning difficulties for instructional decision‐making. As a first step in unraveling those difficulties, we studied teachers’ comprehension of CBM graphs. Using think‐aloud methodology, we examined 23 teachers’ ability to read , interpret , and link CBM data to instruction for fictitious graphs and their own students’ graphs. Additionally, we examined whether graph literacy—measured with a self‐ ...

Background: Gram Staining is an essential diagnostic procedure where bacteria are stained to be properly identified. However, the stains used were found to be toxic with carcinogenic properties and (insert may) potentially harm living organisms as well as the environment. Methods: To address this issue, plant extracts were utilized in different experiments to test their staining capability on the bacteria. This study provides a systematic review of online articles and studies related to the staining ...

In this exploratory descriptive study, we use eye-tracking technology to examine teachers’ visual inspection of Curriculum-Based Measurement (CBM) progress graphs. More specifically, we examined which elements of the graph received the most visual attention from teachers, and to what extent teachers viewed graph elements in a logical sequence. We also examined whether graph inspection patterns differed for teachers with higher- vs. lower-quality graph descriptions. Participants were 17 fifth- and ...

A novel computer vision application is developed to measure the deflection of two-dimensional (2D) reinforced concrete structural members. Eight beam samples, with dimensions of 160 mm x 150 mm x 1400 mm are loaded and simulated under a four-point loading test until failure using a reaction framework machine. A camera is fixed at the center front view of the concrete beams to capture the deflection of the samples while testing. In each test, a dial indicator is installed and the maximum deflection ...
