Results of incoherent light transient annealing of Mg implants in GaAs are reported and compared to conventional furnace anneals. Transient anneals produced better activations, with an optimum at an annealing temperature of 800°C, due apparently to reduced outdiffusion of Mg into the encapsulating silicon nitride layer.

Reflection x-ray topography has been used to show that incoherent radiation annealing of complete 2-in.-diam GaAs wafers results in extensive crystallographic slip networks. These slip lines are believed to be due to small temperature nonuniformities induced during the anneal by both edge radiation and thermal mass effects. The use of a series of annular guard rings around the wafer during the anneal is shown to reduce both the severity and the number of slip lines.

Rupture of the diaphragm from blunt trauma was identified in 42 patients in four years. The contribution of peritoneal lavage in identifying these injuries was examined. More than 93% of the ruptured diaphragms were identified within 24 hours. Peritoneal lavage was positive in 89% of patients who had no other source of intraabdominal hemorrhage. Chest radiography alone identified 41% of the patients who had diaphragm injury. If the peritoneal lavage is negative and the best radiograph is not diagnostic ...

Abstract Exoplanet systems with multiple transiting planets are natural laboratories for testing planetary astrophysics. One such system is HD 191939 (TOI 1339), a bright ( V = 9) and Sun-like (G9V) star, which TESS found to host three transiting planets (b, c, and d). The planets have periods of 9, 29, and 38 days each with similar sizes from 3 to 3.4 R ⊕ . To further characterize the system, we measured the radial velocity (RV) of HD 191939 over 415 days with Keck/HIRES and APF/Levy. We find that M b = 10.4 ± ...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of prehospital antiplatelet and/or anticoagulant (APAC) use on treatment and outcomes in patients with severe blunt chest injury. Patients with three or more rib fractures and a hospital length of stay (LOS) > three days admitted from 2014 to 2015 were included. Demographics, mortality, complications, injuries, hospital and ICU LOS, use of blood products, and thoracostomy were studied. Of 383 patients, 27.4 per cent were on APAC medication. Patients on ...

Abstract : Blunt abdominal trauma is the commonest cause of intra‐abdominal injuries in children. The use of computerized axial tomography and non‐operative management of haemoperitoneum are two significant developments in the last two decades in the management of blunt abdominal trauma in children. The concept of non‐operative management was introduced in late 1979 and wherever possible remains the optimum treatment. Computerized tomography scan for paediatric abdominal trauma was first described ...
