Osteoarthritis (OA) is a major public concern as it is one of the leading causes of morbidity and lays a huge medical and economic burden on health resources. Early detection of OA has been a clinical challenge as early signs of joint inflammation are often not evidently identifiable on routine radiographic images. This presents a dire unmet medical need for a biomarker, which could detect early signs of joint inflammation much before irreversible joint damage and radiographic changes set in. Besides, ...

The effect of compressibility and of density variation on Rayleigh–Taylor and Richtmyer–Meshkov instability of the temporal development of two fluid interfacial structures such as bubbles and spikes have been investigated. It is seen that the velocity of the tip of the bubble or spike increases (destabilization) if the local Atwood number increases due to density variation of either of the fluids. The opposite is the result, i.e., the bubble or spike tip velocity decreases (stabilization) if the density ...

The effect of magnetic field on the nonlinear growth rate of Rayleigh–Taylor instability induced two fluid interfacial structures has been investigated. The magnetic field is assumed to be parallel to the plane of the two fluid interface and acts in a direction perpendicular to the wave vector. If the magnetic field is restricted only to either side of the interface, the growth rate may be depressed (may almost disappear) or be enhanced depending on whether the magnetic pressure on the interface ...

Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) results in focal deprivation of blood-borne factors, one of them being oxygen. The purpose of this study was two-fold: (1) to identify therapeutic conditions for supplemental oxygen in AIS and (2) to use transcriptome-wide screening toward uncovering oxygen-sensitive mechanisms. Transient MCAO in rodents was used to delineate the therapeutic potential of normobaric (NBO, 100% O 2 , 1ATA) and hyperbaric oxygen (HBO, 100% O 2 , 2ATA) during ischemia (iNBO, iHBO) and after reperfusion ( ...

GIST is the commonest mesenchymal tumour of the gastrointestinal tract. Jejunal GIST is rare and spontaneous perforation of asymptomatic jejunal GIST is unique. A review of the English literature reveals only fifteen cases of perforated GIST till date. Pre-operative diagnosis is difficult. Diagnosis is confirmed on histopathology and immuno-histochemistry. Complete removal with postoperative imatinib therapy entails optimal treatment. Perforated GIST is associated with high recurrence.
