Abstract The in vivo metabolism of purified C3, the third component of complement, labeled with 125 ‐iodine ( 125 I‐C3) was studied in 17 normal volunteers and in 24 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Abstract Four methods to detect antibodies reactive with soluble nuclear antigens were compared—the fluorescent antibody technique, hemagglutination, complement fixation, and immunodiffusion. Certain advantages and disadvantages of each method are described. The first three methods have greater sensitivity than immunodiffusion, but immunodiffusion discriminates most reliably between different antibodies.
