A novel real-time observation system has been developed. It is capable of simultaneously recording visual partial discharge arcs and leakage currents on insulator surfaces under wet-contaminated conditions during a 2-h test. Since this system uses a video recording system uses a video recording system, the discharges and currents can be reproduced repeatedly even at a slowed-down speed. To permit simultaneous recording and accurate data processing of leakage currents, a personal computer is also ...

The results of an investigation of the dielectric strength of lichen-contaminated insulators removed from actual transmission lines of three different countries are reported. All of the insulators showed low equivalent salt-deposit density. It seems that lichen on its own cannot cause flashover of the insulators. Flashover may be caused only if the thickness of the lichen is very great and/or there is superposition of salt. >

The results of investigations into the cause of certain flashovers which occurred in horizontally mounted insulators in HVDC stations are described. Insulators having various shed shapes were subjected to contamination and wet tests under horizontally and vertically mounted insulators, a slight reduction was found in the contamination withstand voltages of horizontally mounted insulators for some shed profiles. A shed shape is proposed as the optimum design for horizontally mounted insulators from ...

The influence of the diameter on contamination flashover/withstand voltage of cylindrical insulators was investigated both for AC and DC. The increase in diameter of a cylindrical insulator significantly lowers the contaminated flashover/withstand voltage. The increase in diameter also lowers the contaminant deposit density on the insulator surface under the same contamination atmosphere. The decrease in the contamination flashover/withstand voltage is more than that implied in an existing IEC publication. ...

In Shanghai, China, industrial contamination is very severe and periodic insulator washing is performed not only in substations but also on transmission lines. In order to review the present insulator contamination design and maintenance practices, a series of periodical contamination measurements under de-energized conditions were made. Also insulators that had been energized at two sites for one year were removed, and withstand voltage tests were conducted in an artificial fog chamber. Unexpectedly ...

Mechanisms of acceleration of cholesterol absorption by cholesterol esterase were investigated in various experimental conditions. Lymphatic recovery of cholesterol intubated as a micellar solution containing phosphatidylcholine (PC) into the duodenum was enhanced by the co-administration of cholesterol esterase in rats drained of bile and pancreatic juice. However, no accelerated incorporation was observed when cholesterol was solubilized in PC-depleted micelles. Cholesterol esterase dose-dependently ...

Eggs are a popular source of dietary cholesterol, but their consumption does not necessarily result in an increased serum cholesterol concentration. We investigated the cholesterol-lowering activity of egg white protein (EWP) and its potential mechanism in rats. The consumption of EWP resulted in a decreased concentration of cholesterol in the serum, liver and intestinal mucosa. The excretion of fecal neutral sterols and bile acids was greater by rats fed with EWP than by those fed with casein. The ...

Silicone rubbers and porcelain intended for outdoor insulation were tested under electric fields at AC 60 V/mm on average for about two years at the field test site at Chubu University. Leakage currents on all materials were characterized and separated into three categories: sinusoidal, local arc, and their transition components. The porcelain allowed a larger leakage current than the silicone rubber samples, for which the cumulative charge of ca. 160 C was recorded in about two years. The cumulative ...

The paper investigates the effects of specimen configuration on the deterioration of silicone rubber insulators in a salt fog ageing test. A cyclic salt fog ageing test was conducted on three types of high-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (HTV SiR) specimens: two types of insulators having sheds, and plain rods without sheds. The test was based fundamentally on the CIGRE WG 15-04 specifications. After 50 test cycles, the three types of specimens showed different degrees of surface deterioration. ...

It was reported that the dc flashover voltage under an artificial contamination test sometimes was affected considerably by the type of insoluble materials in the contaminant. To clarify the cause of this phenomenon, the physical characteristics of some contamination slurries and the conductivity of the artificially contaminated insulator surfaces are investigated experimentally. The test results lead to the conclusion that the variation in the flashover voltage is caused mainly by the characteristics ...

An artificial contamination method for hydrophobic polymer insulators has been developed which can provide a uniform contaminant layer, similar to that found in nature, without either damaging the polymer surface or by adding any chemical agent to the conventional contamination slurry. Using this method, the basic contamination withstand voltage characteristics of polymer insulators were investigated compared with those of porcelain insulators. The results show that although hydrophobic polymer ...

This paper describes the results of investigation into the influence of a kind of nonsoluble contaminant (Tonoko or Kaolin) on flashover voltages of artificially contaminated insulators. The deposit density of Kaolin on the insulator surface is less than that of Tonoko when contaminated with the suspension containing the same amount of Tonoko or Kaolin. However, a discernible difference is observed in contamination flashover voltage between these two nonsoluble contaminants, not only under DC but ...

We developed a new scheme for computing “Greeks” of derivatives by an asymptotic expansion approach. In particular, we derived analytical approximation formulae for Deltas and Vegas of plain vanilla and average European call options under general Markovian processes of underlying asset prices. Moreover, we introduced a new variance reduction method of Monte Carlo simulations based on the asymptotic expansion scheme. Finally, several numerical examples under CEV processes confirmed the validity of ...

Dietary egg white protein (EWP) decreases serum cholesterol levels. We previously showed that EWP decreased cholesterol absorption in the intestine. Rats subjected to permanent lymph duct cannulation were used to investigate the effects of dietary EWP on lipid transport. They were fed diets with 20% EWP and casein, and their lymph was collected to quantify lymphatic lipid levels. Dietary EWP decreased lymphatic cholesterol transport compared with casein. It was previously shown that EWP excluded ...

Mayonnaise is used widely in contemporary human diet with widespread use as a salad dressing or spread on breads. Vegetable oils used in its formulation may be a rich source of ω-6 PUFAs and the higher-PUFA content of mayonnaise may be beneficial in mediating a hypocholesterolemic effect. This study, therefore, evaluated the functionality of mayonnaise on cardiometabolic risk within a regular human consumption scenario. Subjects underwent a randomized double-blind crossover trial, consuming diets ...

Abstract During the last decade, it has been uncovered that microRNAs (miRNAs), a class of small non‐coding RNAs, are related to many diseases including cancers. With an increase in reports describing the dysregulation of miRNAs in various tumor types, it has become abundantly clear that miRNAs play significant roles in the formation and progression of cancers. Intriguingly, miRNAs are present in body fluids because they are packed in exosomes/extracellular vesicles and released from all types of ...
