It is suggested that k0(100°) at pH = 0 should be used for correlations of hydrogen exchange rates. A procedure for obtaining these k0 values is given involving successive determination of (A)k(stoich)T°; (B)k(stoich)T° at pH = 0; (C)k(stoich)(100°) at pH = 0; (D) correction for minority species reaction; and (E) correction for isotope effects. This procedure is applied to available data.

Abstract: The release processes of endogenous Acetylcholine (ACh), γ‐aminobutyric acid (GABA), glutamate (Glu) and glutamine (GLN) were studied in superfused guinea‐pig caudatal slices. Basal ACh release remained constant for up to 2 h, while the basal release of GABA, Glu and GLN declined to half or less of its initial values after 1 h of superfusion. Electrical stimulation increased the ACh release by 700–800% and that of GABA by 80% whereas it decreased the output of Glu by 50% and failed to modify ...

After twenty years of operation the Santiago Metro decided to start a new strategy of price differences by period in order to decrease congestion in the morning peak and to postpone the acquisition of new equipment. In this paper we report the results of a model specifically designed to test the impact of different price levels on patronage by period. Stated preference (SP) data was collected, focusing on three aspects: change in time of travel, price differences and comfort improvements. A goods- ...

Abstract Introduction Despite the large routine use of biologic drugs in psoriasis treatment, the majority of studies do not take into consideration dose‐adjustment practice in ‘real‐life’ dermatological setting. In routine clinical practice, the disease management may include a large number of conditions requiring non‐standard dosage regimens, including dose escalation, dose reduction and/or off‐label treatment interruption. Objective The ONDA (Outcome of non‐standard dosing regimen in Psoriasis ...

This study analyzed the volatile composition and aroma profile of BRS Carmem and BRS Violeta red wines elaborated from traditional and two alternative winemaking procedures: grape pre-drying and submerged cap. The wines contained higher concentration of acetates (ranging from 303 mg L-1 to 905 mg L-1) and ethyl and methyl esters (ranging from 138 mg L-1 to 415 mg L-1). The BRS Carmem wines were described as fruity due to the higher concentration of esters and BRS Violeta wines were described as vegetal ...

Background: Left atrial strain and strain rate parameters, measured by bidimensional-speckle tracking echocardiography, have been proposed as predictors of atrial fibrillation, stroke, congestive heart failure and cardiovascular death. However, they have not yet been tested in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. The aim of this study was to assess the prognostic role of global left atrial peak strain (GLAPS) in a population of pregnant women with new-onset hypertension in a medium-term follow-up. ...

The present manuscript assessed the volatile and sensory profiles of BRS Rúbea and BRS Cora wines elaborated from traditional, grape pre-drying and submerged cap winemaking. The wines contained a higher concentration of acetates (257 mg L−1 to 547 mg L−1) and ethyl and methyl esters (183 mg L−1 to 456 mg L−1) in comparison with Vitis vinifera wines. PCA was applied (explaining 68.43% of the total variance), and the higher concentration of ethyl decanoate and ethyl octanoate, diethyl succinate, hydroxylinalool, ...

In normal guinea pigs the adrenergic agonists clonidine and norepinephrine are known to inhibit directly the cortical outflow of acetylcholine (ACh) through alpha-2 receptors and to increase the cortical outflow of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) through alpha-1 receptors. GABA, in turn, contributes to inhibit ACh through GABAA receptors. This scheme is changed drastically by morphine tolerance. In morphine-tolerant guinea pigs, clonidine at 7.5, 18.7 and 112 nmol/kg i.p. stimulates the cortical release ...

Background Animal-type melanoma (ATM) is a rare variant of the tumor showing diffuse, heavily pigmented neoplastic cells in the dermis. Despite the high mean thickness of the lesions, reports seem to indicate a less aggressive behavior and a better survival rate for ATM compared with conventional melanoma, but the underlying pathways related to this favorable outcome are still unknown. Observations Five women and 2 men aged 20 to 92 years presented with pigmented skin nodules (n = 5) or plaques (n = 2), varying ...

From birth to aging the heart undergoes functional changes reflecting biochemical and ultrastructural modifications which imply apoptosis. This is a physiological process resulting from genetic programs closely associated with development and aging. During development apoptosis eliminates redundant cells leading to heart remodeling, while during aging it eliminates damaged or exhausted cells. In the present paper we analyze some molecular mechanisms involved with heart morphological modifications, ...

The first patient's lesion was 3 cm in diameter and had appeared 2 years earlier as a translucent oval atrophic patch with a definite border. The second patient presented a whitish area with a lilac ring, 2.5 cm in diameter, which had appeared nearly a year earlier. Both patients had no other similar cutaneous lesions, and their family ...

A critical success factor in the practice of Open Innovation is the timely identification of opportunities for out-licensing a firm's technologies outside its core business. This can be particularly challenging for small- and medium-sized enterprise (SMEs), because of their focussed business portfolio, specialized knowledge basis, and limited financial resources that can be devoted to innovation activities. The paper illustrates a quick and easy-to-use methodology for the identification of viable ...

We collected 60 scats in CBS from January 1997 to July 2000. Small rodents, small marsupials and primates were the most important items in terms of frequency of occurrence. ...

We surveyed several human populations worldwide with three PCR-based polymorphisms located in the human Y chromosome: the alphoid heteroduplex [alpha(h)] polymorphic system, the DYS19 microsatellite locus, and a polymorphic Alu insertion (YAP). By typing with the former two polymorphisms [alpha(h) and DYS19] we found 46 different haplotypes in 364 males from several populations worldwide. There were significant geographic differences in the distribution of the haplotypes, several of which were seen ...
