This paper presents a series of psychometric meta-analysis on the relationship between cognitive reflection (CR) and several cognitive abilities (i.e., cognitive intelligence, numerical ability, verbal ability, mechanical-spatial ability, and working memory), and skills (i.e., numeracy skills). Also, the paper presents a bifactor analysis carried out to determine whether CR is a related but independent factor or a second-stratum factor in a hierarchical model of cognitive intelligence. Finally, the ...

Counterproductive academic behaviors (CAB) are a major problem for educational institutions all over the world. For this reason, to determine the potential predictors of CAB is relevant. After defining CAB and introducing a typology of seven CABs facets (i.e., cheating, absenteeism, plagiarism, deception, breach of rules, low effort, and misuse of resources), this study reports on a comprehensive meta-analysis carried out to estimate the relationships between CAB and its facets with the Big Five personality ...

We review the physics opportunities of the Future Circular Collider, covering its e+e-, pp, ep and heavy ion programmes. We describe the measurement capabilities of each FCC component, addressing the study of electroweak, Higgs and strong interactions, the top quark and flavour, as well as phenomena beyond the Standard Model. We highlight the synergy and complementarity of the different colliders, which will contribute to a uniquely coherent and ambitious research programme, providing an unmatchable ...

This paper presents a series of meta-analyses of the validity of general mental ability (GMA) for predicting five occupational criteria, including supervisory ratings of job performance, production records, work sample tests, instructor ratings, and grades. The meta-analyses were conducted with a large database of 467 technical reports of the validity of the General Aptitude Test Battery (GATB) which included 630 independent samples. GMA showed to be a consistent predictor of the five criteria, but ...

Academic dishonesty (AD) is a problem that affects all higher education institutions. It hurts their reputation, undermines integrity programs, and sidelines sustainability efforts. To understand its negative impact, the empirical study of AD is a critical issue. Up to now, the majority of research on AD has taken place in the North American context. The current research analyzes the prevalence of AD in a non-American university and, focusing on individual differences, examines some of its causes ...

There is criticism in the literature about the use of interrater coefficients to correct for criterion reliability in validity generalization (VG) studies and disputing whether .52 is an accurate and non-dubious estimate of interrater reliability of overall job performance (OJP) ratings. We present a second-order meta-analysis of three independent meta-analytic studies of the interrater reliability of job performance ratings and make a number of comments and reflections on LeBreton et al.'s paper. ...

The aim of this paper is to generalize the classical Marsden–Weinstein reduction procedure for symplectic manifolds to polysymplectic manifolds in order to obtain quotient manifolds which inherit the polysymplectic structure. This generalization allows us to reduce polysymplectic Hamiltonian systems with symmetries, such as those appearing in certain kinds of classical field theories. As an application of this technique, an analogue to the Kirillov–Kostant–Souriau theorem for polysymplectic manifolds ...

Four primary studies, including samples of police officers, graduate and undergraduate students, were conducted on the bandwidth-fidelity dilemma (BFD) concerning the relationship between personality and performance. Ten independent criteria were used, including both narrow and broad measures of performance. Three hypotheses of the impact of the different combinations of personality and performance measures on validity were tested. A Schmid–Leiman transformation permitted the residualization of the ...

This study empirically tested the predictions of the three basic perspectives on the bandwidth debate about the relationship between personality and job performance, regarding the validity of conscientiousness and its facets. The sample consisted of 226 police officers. Conscientiousness and three facets (order, industriousness, and self‐control) were correlated with three performance criteria (overall job performance, task performance, and orderliness). A Schmid–Leiman transformation made it possible ...

The objective of this work is twofold:First, we analyze the relation between the$k$-cosymplectic and the $k$-symplectic Hamiltonian and Lagrangianformalisms in classical field theories. In particular, we prove the equivalence between$k$-symplectic field theories andthe so-called autonomous $k$-cosymplectic field theories, extending in this way the description of the symplectic formalism of autonomous systems asa particular case of the cosymplectic formalism in non-autonomous mechanics.Furthermore, we ...

This article presents a review of research on personnel selection carried out in the last years. Two selection models are examined: traditional model and strategic model. Also, it is reviewed empirical research on procedures and predictors typically used in selection processes. It is showed the predictive validity of every single predictor, when combined with a second predictor and when combined with two additional predictors, showing the maximal operative validity. It was observed that the best ...

This paper is devoted to studying symmetries of k-symplectic Hamiltonian and Lagrangian first-order classical field theories. In particular, we define symmetries and Cartan symmetries and study the problem of associating conservation laws to these symmetries, stating and proving Noether's theorem in different situations for the Hamiltonian and Lagrangian cases. We also characterize equivalent Lagrangians, which lead to an introduction of Lagrangian gauge symmetries, as well as analyzing their relation ...

This article examines the test–retest reliability of supervisory ratings for several dimensions of job performance and for overall job performance. We found that the test–retest reliability of overall job performance is .79 (SD = .08), a value very close to the one found by Viswesvaran, Ones and Schmidt (1996), and that the average test–retest reliability for specific dimensions of job performance is .57 (SD = .07). We also found that some dimensions of job performance appear to be easier to rate than others. ...

This article explores the cross‐cultural invariance (construct validity) of two work‐related personality inventories based upon the Five Factor Model (the HPI and the IP/5F). The results show a good convergent and discriminant validity between scales that measure the Big Five personality dimensions. A factor analysis indicates that all personality scales load on the hypothesized Big Five dimensions. Some implications of these findings for the research and practice of personality measurement in personnel ...

New information technology (e.g., Internet) allows some personnel selection procedures to be adapted to or developed with this new framework. However, the process of adaptation or development of new procedures produces new questions for research. This paper has three main objectives. First, to examine whether the paper‐and‐pencil version of a Big Five personality questionnaire can be translated to an Internet‐based version without loss of psychometric properties. Second, to explore the perception ...

This article presents a series of meta-analyses carried out, exploring the construct validity of personnel selection interviews. Accordingly, the interviews were divided into two different groups: conventional interviews and behavior interviews. Conventional interviews are typically composed of questions directed at checking credentials, description of experience, and self-evaluative information. Behavior interviews mainly include questions concerning job knowledge, job experience, and behavior ...

Thymidylate synthase (TS) is an important target enzyme for the fluoropyrimidines. TS gene promoter possesses regulatory tandemly repeated (TR) sequences that are polymorphic in humans, depending on ethnic factors. These polymorphisms have been reported to influence TS expression. TS expression levels affect tumor downstaging after preoperative fluoruracil (5-FU)-based chemoradiation. Tumor downstaging correlates with improved local control and disease-free survival. The aim of this study is to correlate ...

Rating scales are most frequently used to assess the criterion in studies of validity in personnel selection. However, only a few articles report the interrater reliability for these scales. This paper presents four meta-analyses in which the inter-rater reliability was estimated for Civil Composite Criterion, Military Composite Criterion, Total Composite Criterion, and Single Civil Criterion. Mean reliabilities were .64, .53, .62, and .40, respectively. The implications of these findings for single ...

This article presents a meta-analysis of the validity of cognitive reflection (CR) for predicting job performance and training proficiency. It also examines the incremental validity of CR over cognitive intelligence (CI) for predicting these two occupational criteria. CR proved to be an excellent predictor of job performance and training proficiency, and the magnitude of the true validity was very similar across the two criteria. Results also showed that the type of CR is not a moderator of CR validity. ...

This meta-analysis examined the differences across countries/regions, and the moderator effects of the study type (cross-sectional vs. longitudinal) on the SWB-job performance relationship. The database consists of 78 independent samples (N = 18,853), located through electronic and manual searches. The results showed that overall SWB (ρ = .37), cognitive SWB (ρ = .27), and affective SWB (ρ = .37) are predictors of job performance. Evidence of cross-cultural effects showed that the magnitude of the SWB-job performance ...

Abstract Soil hydraulic properties control the provision of hydrological services. Vegetation and topography influence these properties by altering soil structure and porosity. The underlying mechanisms are not yet fully understood for the high Andean region. In this study, we examined how vegetation and topographic attributes are related to soil hydraulic properties and soil pore structure in young volcanic ash soils, and further correlated them to soil texture, organic carbon, and root characteristics ...

Proline-rich extensin-like receptor kinases (PERKs) belong to the hydroxyproline-rich glycoprotein (HRGP) superfamily known to be involved in many plant developmental processes. Here, we characterized two pollen-expressed PERKs from Arabidopsis thaliana, PERK5 and PERK12. Pollen tube growth was impaired in single and double perk5-1 perk12-1 loss of function mutants, with an impact on seed production. When the segregation was analysed, a male gametophytic defect was found, indicating that perk5-1 and ...
