Abstract A new species of gall‐inducing wasp, Tanaostigmodes shrek Apsec sp. nov. (Hymenoptera: Tanaostigmatidae), is described from the Australian Capital Territory. This species forms its gall in elaiosomes. These are specialised, protein‐rich structures attached to seeds to attract seed dispersal by ants. Despite the fact that gall induction has evolved many times in the Chalcidoidea, and many different parts of the plant are utilised, this is the first record of a species inducing galls in elaiosomes. ...

Abstract Sentiment analysis and opinion mining are essential tasks with many prominent application areas, e.g., when researching popular opinions on products or brands. Sentiments expressed in social media can be used in brand name monitoring and indicating fake news. In our survey of previous work, we note that there is no large-scale social media data set with sentiment polarity annotations for Finnish. This publication aims to remedy this shortcoming by introducing a 27,000-sentence data set ...

Anonymous online groups such as imageboards have increasing cultural influence. Recently, they have been connected with far-right political movements. This mixed-methods study investigates politics on Overboard, a Finnish imageboard. We use a convolutional neural network to learn linguistic features of the community’s own understanding of politics, studying two large text corpora, collected in 2014–2015 and 2018–2019. This enables us to find political messages in nominally non-political subforums ...

Coronary collateral growth is a process involving coordination between growth factors expressed in response to ischemia and mechanical forces. Underlying this response is proliferation of vascular smooth muscle and endothelial cells, resulting in an enlargement in the caliber of arterial-arterial anastomoses, i.e., a collateral vessel, sometimes as much as an order of magnitude. An integral element of this cell proliferation is the process known as phenotypic switching in which cells of a particular ...

Prophylactic total gastrectomy (PTG) remains the only means of preventing gastric cancer for people with genetic mutations predisposing to Hereditary Diffuse Gastric Cancer (HDGC), mainly in the CDH1 gene. The small but growing cohort of people undergoing PTG at a young age are expected to have a life-expectancy close to the general population, however, knowledge of the long-term effects of, and monitoring requirements after, PTG is limited. This study aims to define the standard of care for follow- ...

Objective— Our goal was to determine the mechanism by which mitochondrial oxidative stress impairs collateral growth in the heart. Approach and Results— Rats were treated with rotenone (mitochondrial complex I inhibitor that increases reactive oxygen species production) or sham-treated with vehicle and subjected to repetitive ischemia protocol for 10 days to induce coronary collateral growth. In control rats, repetitive ischemia increased flow to the collateral-dependent zone; however, rotenone treatment ...

Over the past decade, the Nomenclature Committee on Cell Death (NCCD) has formulated guidelines for the definition and interpretation of cell death from morphological, biochemical, and functional perspectives. Since the field continues to expand and novel mechanisms that orchestrate multiple cell death pathways are unveiled, we propose an updated classification of cell death subroutines focusing on mechanistic and essential (as opposed to correlative and dispensable) aspects of the process. As we ...

To recognize semantic frames in languages with a rich morphology, we need computational morphology. In this paper, we look at one particular framework, HFST–Helsinki Finite-State Technology, and how to use it for recognizing semantic frames in context. HFST enables tokenization, morphological analysis, tagging, and frame annotation in one single framework.

Abstract Digital Humanities has an increasing need for widely applicable and easy-to-use methods across disciplinary boundaries. We believe that the cross-disciplinary methods we have developed for the study of the ancient Near East are useful for the study of other research questions outside the field of “Digital Assyriology”. The article presents an overview of automated language processing for lexical-semantic analysis, social network analysis, and content analysis. We draw on the work in our ...
