山陽新幹線は阪神・淡路大震災により甚大な被害を受け, 80日間にわたり新大阪・姫路間が不通となった。本稿では, 新幹線の概要, 高架橋, 橋りょうの被害状況について述べた。ここで落橋の原因となった高架柱等の破壊は, せん断破壊によって生じたものと推定されている。また, 復旧方法として実施された鋼板被覆工法について延べ, この工法によりじん性率ならびに耐震性が向上していることを示した。復旧工事は, 高架橋床版, 橋げたを所定の位置に安全に戻すことがポイントとなったが, こう上するために採用された工法について解説し, 併せて鋼板被膜工法で用いられた鋼板形状, 注入工法について一覧表で示した。
