Operation of a direct alcohol fuel cell (DAFC) at relatively high temperature is a key issue in this study from the standpoint of achieving high performance. To evaluate the temperature effect on the electro-oxidation of alcohols in an intermediate temperature region around 250 °C, a comparative kinetic study on the electro-oxidation of methanol and ethanol on carbon supported Pt was conducted using a single cell fabricated with CsH2PO4 proton conducting solid electrolyte. Current density of ethanol ...

Abstract The effects of oxygen partial pressure on the oxidation of Zircaloy-4 were examined at 773 K under the oxygen partial pressure between 0.1 and 2 × 10−5MPa to study the oxidation behavior of spent fuel during dry storage. The oxidation rate at first obeyed a cubic rate law, and changed to obey a linear rate law at almost the same weight gains even at different oxygen partial pressures. The oxidation rate during posttransition period showed pO20.15 dependence. The dependency of the oxidation ...

We report the synthesis, structure, and electromagnetic properties of Cr-based layered oxyarsenides LnCrAsO (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, and Nd) with a ZrCuSiAs-type structure. All LnCrAsO samples showed metallic electronic conduction. Electron doping in LaCrAsO by Mn-substitution for the Cr sites gave rise to a metal-insulator transition. Analysis of powder neutron diffraction data revealed that LaCrAsO had G-type antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering, i.e., a checkerboard-type AFM ordering in the CrAs plane and antiparallel ...

System logs are useful to understand the status of and detect faults in large scale networks. However, due to their diversity and volume of these logs, log analysis requires much time and effort. In this paper, we propose a log event anomaly detection method for large-scale networks without pre-processing and feature extraction. The key idea is to embed a large amount of diverse data into hidden states by using latent variables. We evaluate our method with 12 months of system logs obtained from ...

The distribution of immunoreactivity to the receptor for substance P was examined in the cerebral blood vessels of the rat. Substance P immunoreactivity has been demonstrated in the nerve fibers of the cerebral blood vessels. Recently, the production of substance P receptor specific antibody has enabled the detection of localization of the substance P receptor in the central nervous system. In this study, we examined the existence of nerve fibers with substance P receptor immunoreactivity in the ...

Heteroatom substitution in acenes allows tailoring of their remarkable electronic properties, expected to include spin-polarization and magnetism for larger members of the acene family. Here, we present a strategy for the on-surface synthesis of three undecacene analogs substituted with four nitrogen atoms on an Au(111) substrate, by employing specifically designed diethano-bridged precursors. A similarly designed precursor is used to synthesize the pristine undecacene molecule. By comparing experimental ...

Superconductivity in iron pnictide compounds occurs near a magnetic phase and magnetic spin fluctuations are prime candidates for the superconducting pairing mechanism. What does this mean now that a second magnetic phase, next to another superconducting phase, is found at higher doping levels? High-temperature superconductivity appears as a consequence of doping charge carriers into an undoped parent compound exhibiting antiferromagnetic order; therefore, ground-state properties of the parent compound ...

To gain a better understanding of the pathological role of interferon-γ (IFN-γ) in specific granuloma formation, IFN-γ gene-deficient mice (BALB/c and C57BL/6) were produced. The IFN-γ gene in embryonic stem (ES) cells was disrupted by inserting the β-galactosidase gene (lacZ) and the neomycin resistance gene (neo) at the translation initiation site in exon 1 by homologous recombination. Six-week-old IFN-γ-deficient and wild-type mice were inoculated with 103-107 bacilli of various strains of Mycobacterium ...

Purple membrane from Halobacterium halobium in suspensions has been studied by quasielastic light scattering. The intensity correlation functions of polarized scattered light were measured at various K2 values (K being the magnitude of the scattering vector), and the first cumulant Γ of the field correlation function G1 (τ) was obtained by a cumulant expansion method. The apparent diffusion coefficient Γ/K2 did not increase monotonically with K2 values and showed a distinct anomaly in an intermediate ...

Network log messages (e.g., syslog) are expected to be valuable and useful information to detect unexpected or anomalous behavior in large scale networks. However, because of the huge amount of system log data collected in daily operation, it is not easy to extract pinpoint system failures or to identify their causes. In this paper, we propose a method for extracting the pinpoint failures and identifying their causes from network syslog data. The methodology proposed in this paper relies on causal ...

De novo formation of the double-membrane compartment autophagosome is seeded by small vesicles carrying membrane protein autophagy-related 9 (ATG9), the function of which remains unknown. Here we find that ATG9A scrambles phospholipids of membranes in vitro. Cryo-EM structures of human ATG9A reveal a trimer with a solvated central pore, which is connected laterally to the cytosol through the cavity within each protomer. Similarities to ABC exporters suggest that ATG9A could be a transporter that ...
