The complex polynomial method (CPM) and the complex variable boundary element method (CVBEM) are used when solving boundary problems for the Laplace equation in flat domains of complex shape. These methods have been compared according to numerical efficiency using the example of some problems of mathematical physics (heat transfer, filtration, torsion of prismatic rods). Numerical results have been correlated with the known analytical and approximate solutions. Recommendations are given for practical ...

Abstract. This study presents a dataset on long-term multidisciplinary glaciological, hydrological, and meteorological observations and isotope sampling in a sparsely monitored alpine zone of the North Caucasus in the Djankuat research basin. The Djankuat glacier, which is the largest in the basin, was chosen as representative of the central North Caucasus during the International Hydrological Decade and is one of 30 “reference” glaciers in the world that have annual mass balance series longer than ...

The problem of providing settlement uniformity of a rigid foundation on a non-uniformly compressible base has been reduced to the contact problem from elasticity theory, with controlling parameters which allow one to select either co-ordinates of the point of application of the vertical load resultant or contours in plan at which the foundation slope will be equal to zero. The solution of the problem is illustrated by numerical examples.

Sergey M. Aleynikov,

In the fifth chapter boundary-element method is applied to calculate contact interaction of foundation structures with soil, taking into account the deepening factor. The need for spatially based calculation of bases of deepened foundations is explained. The principles for foundation structure calculations from the base deformations are briefly reviewed as well as the existing problem formulations and solution methods for spatial problems of contact interaction of deepened foundation structures ...

Sergey M. Aleynikov,

In the fourth chapter the results of the boundary-element solutions of spatial contact problems for complex-shaped punches, located on the surfaces of elastic nonclassical bases, are analyzed. The problems under consideration correspond to the modeling of contact interaction of shallow foundations with elastic nonhomogeneous bases. Contact pressure fields under punches of various shape under an eccentric load (a contact problem on a strongly inclined punch) are obtained. The influence of non-uniform ( ...

The sixth chapter presents solutions of spatial problems of applied geomechanics related to variation of pore pressure in the soil. The influence of the pore pressure decline on the soil settlement and cracking as well as the induced seismicity and other environmental hazards due to pumping out gas and oil deposits or intense removal of underground water at industrial or civil engineering is discussed. The methods for numerical modelling of soil mass deformations due to the reduction of the pore ...

The second chapter is devoted to the mathematical formulation of mixed problems of the elasticity theory for a half-space and to the numerical-and-analytical methods of their solution. The results obtained in this chapter on developing the mathematical means are the reference data for BEM-based numerical modeling of the spatial contact interaction. The integrated boundary equations of the spatial contact problem are written for the case when the calculation scheme is accepted in the form of variously ...

Sergey M. Aleynikov,

This chapter deals with practical implementation of the developed numerical algorithms and substantiation of the reliability of the numerical solutions. It presents the general characteristics and structure of the Rostwerk software package for investigating three-dimensional stress-strained states of elastic bases corresponding to the interaction of foundation structures with soil under force factors of general kind. Procedures for creating input databases are described in detail. Algorithms and ...

Sergey M. Aleynikov,

The first chapter presents some introductive data while reviewing spatial contact models in geotechnics. Classical fundamental solutions for the spatial theory of elasticity obtained by Boussinesq, Cerruti, Mindlin are quoted as well as their generalizations, suitable for calculating constructions on elastic nonclassical bases. The properties of the influence functions are analyzed, required for characterizing elastic bases with nonhomogeneous deformation properties (connected half-spaces, elastic ...

Sergey M. Aleynikov,

A spatial contact model for an elastic base which takes into account the limit contact pressure in soil is proposed. Approximate equations permitting the use of the contact model for the description of non-linear ‘load-settlement’ dependence are presented. The application of the proposed model for calculating contact pressures, settlements and slopes of rigid punches of an arbitrary shape in a plan with the use of boundary-integral equation method leads to systems of non-linear algebraic equations ...

The article considers a sorption method for extracting copper ions from a model nitric acid solution based on a solution of electrolytic refining of silver with using sorbents with bis-picolylamine functional groups: Dowex M-4195 and AXIONIT BPA. The possibility of extracting copper to residual concentrations in the solution of less than 10 mg/l is shown. The working capacity of both samples under batch conditions, as well as the dynamic exchange capacity and the full dynamic exchange capacity under ...

Silvicultural and ecological studies were conducted in mixed pine-spruce stands, with the first receiving longgradual felling in 1993-1995 on the territory of Obozerskoe forestry, Arkhangelsk region. The studied stands are presented by mixed old growth pine forests of VII age class, III bonitet class. The studies was carried out on temporary plots, with the study by standard methods of layer deposition in the apiaries and in skidding track of long-term, gradual felling and planting untouched by ...

Abstract After a long device enhancement phase, scientific operation resumed in 2022. The main new device components are the water cooling of all plasma facing components and the new water-cooled high heat flux divertor units. Water cooling allowed for the first long-pulse operation campaign. A maximum discharge length of 8 min was achieved with a total heating energy of 1.3 GJ. Safe divertor operation was demonstrated in attached and detached mode. Stable detachment is readily achieved in some ...
