Dipyrrolidylmethane, CH2(pyr)2, and dipiperidylmethane, CH2(pip)2, are synthesized via the condensation of their respective secondary amine precursors and dichloromethane at room temperature in the absence of light. Their use as chelating ligands is shown by the isolation and complete characterization of [CH2(pyr)2]Mo(CO)4 and [CH2(pip)2]Mo(CO)4 complexes. X-ray analysis reveals the methylene bis(cycloamines) to possess a sharp bite angle between 61° and 63° and a strong steric impact on the surrounding ...

The marine bone biome is a complex assemblage of macro- and microorganisms; however, the enzymatic repertoire to access bone-derived nutrients remains unknown. The bone matrix is a composite material made up mainly of organic collagen and inorganic hydroxyapatite. We conducted field experiments to study microbial assemblages that can use organic bone components as nutrient source. Bovine and turkey bones were deposited at 69 m depth in a Norwegian fjord (Byfjorden, Bergen). Metagenomic sequence analysis ...

Auxin applications increased the amount of first grade-early harvested fruit, and increased crop value as compared to hand-thinned trees. Solids dispersions (SDs) have been proposed as an alternative to improve the dissolution rate of low solubility drugs. SDs containing albendazole (ABZ; 5, 10, 25, and 50% w/w) and Pluronic 188 (P 188) as hydrophilic carrier were formulated. The obtained SDs were assessed in comparison to physical mixtures (PMs). Drug–polymer interactions in solid state were investigated using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis. No chemical interaction ...

Drug–polymers interactions in solid state were investigated using different techniques.Only a 4% of total ABZ was dissolved at 5 min post-incubation, reaching dissolution rates of 32.8% (PEG 6000) and 69.4% (P 188) in SDs. In this way, P 188 was substantially more efficient as ABZ dissolution promoter in comparison ...

Flubendazole (FLBZ) is a broad spectrum benzimidazole methylcarbamate anthelmintic widely used in poultry and swine. However, there is no information available on the pharmacological behaviour of FLBZ in ruminants. The work reported here was addressed to evaluate the potential of FLBZ for use in sheep. The integrated assessment included evaluation of FLBZ and metabolites plasma disposition kinetics, liver metabolism and ex vivo ability to diffuse into the cestode parasite Moniezia benedeni . The current chemotherapy of cystic echinococcosis (CE) is mainly based on the use of albendazole, and the results have been shown to be highly variable. Thus, new and more efficient treatment options are urgently needed. The goals of the current study were: a) to compare the ex vivo activity of flubendazole (FLBZ) and nitazoxanide (NTZ), given either separately or co-administered, against Echinococcus granulosus protoscoleces and cysts, b) to characterize the plasma disposition kinetics of FLBZ administered ...

We show that the noncrystalline-to-crystalline transition of supported Pt nanoparticles (NPs) in the subnanometer to nanometer size range is statistical in nature, and strongly affected by particle size, support, and adsorbates (here we use H2). Unlike in the bulk, a noncrystalline phase exists and is stable in small NPs, reflecting a general mesoscopic feature. Observations of >3000 particles by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy show a noncrystalline-to-crystalline transition zone that ...

1. We investigated the regulation of intracellular pH (pHi) in rat brain isolated nerve terminals (synaptosomes), using fluorescence pH indicators and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. 2. The resting pHi was not significantly affected by the presence or absence of HCO3-. Removal of external Na+, in the absence or presence of HCO3- caused a rapid acidification of pHi. The recovery from acid loads was primarily due to the activity of the Na+/H+ exchanger, confirming the relevance of this transport ...

Partial coordination numbers measured by extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy have been used for decades to resolve between different compositional motifs in bulk and nanoscale bimetallic alloys. Due to the ensemble-averaging nature of EXAFS, the values of the coordination numbers in nanoparticles cannot be simply interpreted in terms of the degree of alloying or segregation if the compositional distribution is broad. We demonstrate that a Cowley short range order parameter ...

To assess the utility, indications ...
